August 20, Thistle Hill Shelter - mile 1716.6

I have a hard time imagining being more tired or sore than I am tonight. Wow, do they make these hills steep! Thankfully, I am in a dry shelter for the night, & it seems the worst of today's promised downpour has held off for now. When I left Killington on Saturday, it was supposed to rain all last night and today. but clearly that front is moving a little slower than expected. It just started a few hours ago, but very light so far, & I hope the front moves through tonight while I have a roof over my head.

A very strange thing happened today, namely, I passed up a soda along the trail I had just visited a house along side the trail,. where they let hikers sleep in the barn, & they have an outdoor shower & a water hydrant, too. So I sat on their porch to eat lunch & drink a bunch of Gatorade, & then tackled the next hill, where Some one had kindly left a cooler of sodas. I stopped & looked at my choice of Mello Yellow & Citrus, neither of which I particularly like, & decided I wouldn't be able to finish one anyway, so I may as well leave them for the next hikers. I still can hardly believe I did that, after all these months of disappointment when I reached empty coolers! It's funny how it works sometimes.

Well, I'm glad to be here & looking forward to a good night's sleep. Tomorrow I should be in Hanover, another state down! Wow - how times flies
