August 22, Moose Mtn Shelter - mile 1737
Another perfect day for hiking! Even though I was sick all last night & it lasted most of the morning, it seemed to clear after a couple miles on the trail. It felt kind of like mild food poisoning, which it could be, actually. I stopped at a country store yesterday morning for breakfast, & I've been feeling funky ever since. But anyway, as I was saying, despite the upset tummy I've really enjoyed my first day in New Hampshire. The woods here are different some how, & I feel like if I was just plopped down here without knowing my location, I would still know I was in the northern mountains. The feel & the smell & even the type of trail feel northern - it's hard to explain.
I'm surprised that there aren't more people at the shelter here tonight. There were so many in town who I expected to push out today, & I was really not looking forward to being in the midst of a huge group. However, there are only seven here & it's a nice size. The reading of Harry Potter is about to start, so I must be off.
