September 14, Bemis Mtn Second Peak - mile 1932

Early Morning View

I have been in such a foul mood today that I am starting to annoy myself. Or I was, anyway. A pot of hot noodles and crawling into my tent seem to have lifted my spirits substantially. I haven't the faintest idea what my problem was today, other than that I must have gotten up on the wrong side of the tent, so to speak. I was annoyed to find some one camped on my front door step this morning, and I was annoyed when my alarm went off, then I dilly-dallied so long packing up, I got started an hour late, which irritated me, too. After that, every little thing, from the incessant ups which are never on the map, to the super- arrogant SOBO hiker, got on my nerves. I got to this point and saw this one-person camp spot and said, enough! I'm calling it a day.

Well, I'm another day closer to Katahdin, and I can hardly wait! My body is so perpetually exhausted that I find myself day-dreaming constantly about how many weeks straight I'll sleep when I get home. Sleep and eat, I should say. I'm also perpetually ravenous, and I discovered with alarm tonight that I didn't buy enough snacks at my last re-supply in Andover. I thought it seemed odd that my 6-day food bag wasn't taking up any more space than a 5-day one. I should have know before. So now I'm toying with the idea of hitching into Rangley from a road crossing I'll get to tomorrow. It seems a bit silly to go in just for snacks but on the other hand, I could also get a bed and a meal for one night, too. So we'll see.
