October 3, Katahdin Stream Campground - mile 2162.9
![]()
I can hardly believe I'm here! I feel like every nerve in my body is tingling with excitement and I hope that I'll be able to sleep ok tonight in spite of it. Even though I still had 13 miles to hike in this morning, they literally flew by. First I ran into Quijote and Mr. Moo, who have flip-flopped. They actually summited yesterday and are now headed south to Stratton, which is about 200 miles to go for them. I hadn't seen them since Damascus, VA, so it was a joyful little reunion there on the trail and we stood there for a good half hour catching up. It's impossible to catch up a 6-month trip in half an hour, but I got their emails and at least I did get to see them before the end of the trip. It would have been really cool if I had been a couple days earlier and could have summited on the same day as them, but Featherweight and Lightfoot got that pleasure instead. I got to see them here at the campground tonight, too, so we exchanged congrats and good-byes before they headed out to Millinocket.
Well, tomorrow is a big day, so I'd better try to get some rest.
