May 27 Pearisburg

I'm enjoying a beautiful, slow moving day here in our room at the Plaza Motel, essentially doing nothing but eating and writing all day. I wandered out around 10:30 this morning to see if I could find a church close by, and after a few blocks, I found the Pearisburg Episcopal Church with its door open. So I joined about 7 or 8 other folks for their service there and had a very nice time. Everyone was so friendly and interested in hearing about my hike.
Since then, I have only moved between my bed and a chair on the balcony and I've loved every minute of it. Earlier this afternoon, I watched Featherweight and Lightweight pack a ton of food into their packs and then I walked them down to the Dairy Queen for a blizzard before they got back on the trial. They only caught up with me Friday night on their way into town, after playing catch-up with me for the past week. Although we left Damascus on the same day last week, I left early in the morning and they didn't get out until the evening. And since then, I've been pushing pretty high-mile days in order to reach Pearisburg before the post office closed on Saturday. So even thought their pace is typically much faster than mine, I actually stayed ahead of them for just one week, Now we'll be reversing roles, since they've left a day ahead of me.
