Our School

Sri Ramakrishna Sarada Peeth Kanya Gurukul is a premier educational institution. As the name itself suggests, it is a residential school in a spacious complex where students from far and near can stay in close proximity to their teachers and pursue their secular and spiritual learning. However, there are day scholars as well.

The School is situated on the periphery of a small town and surrounded by towering Sal and Mahua trees. The kanya Gurukul also adorn flower gardens, a kitchen garden and fruit orchards adding to the sylvan beauty of the locale.

Junior Basic School: Korok
The school has three sections: "Korak" or kindergarten section, the Junior Basic or primary section and the High School which runs classes ranging from V to XII. Most of the students come from socially and economically disadvantaged, less privileged families and are from Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes and other backward castes. The main source of livelihood of these families has been agriculture or gathering and selling firewood from the forest.

Swami Sharvanandaji whose heart was filled with compasssion for these people ventured to found this school so that the girls could become educated and skilled and thus stand upon their own feet, upon firm ground, with self-esteem, self-reliance and dignity. They would also learn to feel proud of their heritage and culture and derive sustenance and inspiration, drinking deep of the ambrosia of the holy lives of saints and seers, especially of Sri Ramakrishna, the Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda.

So Swami Sharvanandaji laid stress on man-making and character-building education which alone could save a society from degeneration. He wanted an ideal band of teachers, both nuns and householders, who would dedicate themselves to this task of education of girl-children. The School, thus, caters to the needs of girl-children, aiming at their total perslonality development. The children come from far and near, develop love and respect for their teachers, love for nature and mutual understanding and harmony among themselves. The aim is to assist the students in developing their body, mind, heart, and intellect in synergy so that they would be responsible citizens, and exemplary sisters and mothers on the role model of Sri Sri SaradaDevi, the Holy consort of Sri Ramakrishna.
Learning must be a lot of fun

Students of Korak learn through play at school; learning is a joyous experience for them. Additionally, they have classes in music, painting, drawing, dance and games. This specific section functions under the Governing Body of the Trust, and is wholly autonomous with no government assistance. During a short span of 10 years, Korak has grown from strength to strength, and has earned a very good name in the town. Monastic members run the School with sincerity of purpose and hard work.

Dining Hall: A gastronomy meet
The Junior Basic section has many SC/ST students from very poor families. The school has dedicated teachers and has earned a good repuutation. Many of its students have excelled in studies as well as in cultural activities. The High School with the Higher Secondary section has nearly 1100 students. The School buildings are spacious. A library, a beautifully decorated auditorium, a Computer lab, laboratories for practical based subjects and a playground comprise the basic interfaces for the school. The students pursue handicrafts, modern computer applications, music and other fine arts in addition to their own academic tasks. In view of their family backgrounds, most of the tribal girls have, indeed, shown great potentialities and promise. The tradition of the school has been set by its founding father Swami Sharvanandaji Maharaj who stressed that every girl was the embodiment of the Divine Mother herself and so teaching the girls was a spiritual practice; love and mutual respect must prevail between the teachers and the students in order for both to grow. The students must be made aware of their innate power. The teachers are to be instrumental in the manifestation of the perfection already eminent in the student.

This is the ideal set by Swami Sharvanandaji Maharaj who was echoing the powerful teachings of Swami Vivekananda, his hero. Sri Ramakrishna Sarada Peeth is founded on the conviction that women are also heirs to the spiritual wisdom and enlightenment of the ancient seers and sages. Women can also aspire to traverse on the path to spiritual realisation which is of their birth-right. So the motto of this kanyaGurukul is "Sraddha Bhakti Jnana Yogadavehi" meaning "Know through Faith, Devotion, Knowledge and Communion".
