Seminarians in the Philosophy Department are those in their second, third and fourth year of philosophical studies. After their initial stage of adjustment and formation in the Juniorate Department, they continue with all aspects of their formation to grow and better respond to their vocation. They are given more responsibilities in the seminary and assigned to different forms of pastoral work outside. Students who have completed their study would gain a degree in Bachelor of Arts Classical, Major in Philosophy.

The study of philosophy in San Carlos Seminary is "based on the that always valid philosophical patrimony whose witnesses are the great Christian philosophers. They are the ones who have handed down value since they are founded in nature itself. Granted such a philosophical basis, the student's attention should be directed towards contemporary Philosophy, and in particular, to the schools of thought which exercise special influence in their own country and to recent scientific progress.
