Southern Connecticut State University maintains an outstanding intercollegiate athletic program for men and women, recognizing the needs of student-athletes in individual and team sports. The Owls are a members of the Northeast-10 Conference (since June, 2000), the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All programs compete in NCAA Division II with the exception of gymnastics.
Women's intercollegiate programs in cross country, field hockey, volleyball, soccer, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, track & field (indoor and outdoor) and softball have produced many distinguished athletes and coaches. Women's lacrosse will debut in the spring of 2002.
Men’s intercollegiate programs include soccer, cross country, football, gymnastics, track & field (indoor and outdoor) swimming, basketball, and baseball. Southern ranks among the top ten of Division II colleges and universities for most individual championships.
THE UNIVERSITY
Having celebrated its centennial in 1993, Southern Connecticut State University comprises six academic schools: the School of Arts and Sciences; the School of Business; the School of Education; the School of Communication, Information and Library Sciences; and the School of Professional Studies.
The key to Southern’s academic excellence is its faculty. In addition, the University has developed outstanding facilities including an extensive library, science center and Jess Dow Field, Southern’s multipurpose outdoor athletic complex.
Though committed to academics, Southern recognizes the lasting value of informal extracurricular activities for its students.
