Living conditions in Korea can be
very good!
I have a bright, cozy studio
apartment in this well-run, clean building.. |
The
gentleman on the left is Mr. Kim, a limousine driver for Elite
Institute. He is also the very kind man who helped me move into my
apartment. Mr. Kim not only drove me and my belongings through endless blocks of
heavy traffic and carried furniture up and down several flights of
stairs, but he did so on a hot
Saturday afternoon, just after attending a wedding! This picture was taken a few months later, when Mr. Kim
came to visit and take me out for a healthy, delicious Korean-style
brunch. Thank you, Mr. Kim! |
Photo Gallery of my
Apartment

Sleeping quarters
- double bed, roomy |

Living & office space
- note the air conditioner, top
left corner |

Kitchen -- lots of cupboard space
(including a double sink!) |

Counter space and stove
(ovens are never provided
in studio apartments) |

View from the balcony
- note the cute new washing
machine |

My street in a nice residential zone
- clean, green and very quiet |
Bathroom -- tiny but efficient
Note the bottom section
of the showerhead above the mirror. Most Korean bathrooms don't
waste space on bathtubs or shower stalls. I'll
never forget the day I got all dressed and ready for work and, when
I went to go wash my hands, I had forgotten that the showerhead was
still turned on. Good thing I had a clean change of clothes
nearby!
Note the
"spoon-shaped" object on the lower right.

Designer
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Not only are there designer
jeans, watches, & handbags, but someone has actually come up with
a designer toilet bowl cleaner! It was
ultimately a combination of culture shock & desperation that induced me
to pay the equivalent of $20 CAD for the elegant poop scrubber you
see here! As a "value added" feature, it comes with an
"official" document, from The Museum of Modern Art.
LOL!

A Closer Look at my
Neighborhood: The Town of Yeonhui-dong

A favorite street in Yeonhui-dong
- with numerous restaurants,
markets, & specialty shops |

One of the fantastic restaurants on
that street
- this one specializes in
hand-made noodles |

View from my balcony on a spring day
|

Another view from the balcony |

The main street of my neighborhood, Yeonhui-ro
- as the background reveals,
there are lots of great hills here |

Viewing the opposite direction on that same street
- there was relatively light
traffic when this shot was taken |

Yeonhui-ro from an elevated crosswalk
- "ro" (pronounced
'roe') means "street" |

Yeonhui-ro, viewing the opposite
direction
- Seoul is an amazingly huge
city that goes on forever! |
What a great neighbourhood!!
