11 "Confession"
"Kokuhaku" (告白)

Sana visits Asami at the hospital, bringing some flowers for her as well. He even brought a book for her to read just in case she gets bored. Asami thank him for that. She joked that it is funny for her to be visiting someone in the hospital that ended up being hospitalized. She felt that she is being punished for what she has done. Sana feel
bewildered by what she said and soon find out from her that she is the one who sent the letter to the principal that say that Syusuke and Syuri went to a love hotel together.

She did that because she hated Syuri. She hates Syuri for rejecting her confession during their first year in high school. She hates Syuri for pretending that nothing has happened and continue to act as her friend and hurt her feelings like it is nothing. Asami has once did tried to just be a friend simply because she wants to but when she notice Syuri crying while riding the Ferris Wheel during their trip to the theme park, she realizes that Syuri has a profound wound that she hates with her brother and there is no room for her at all. That is when she realize Syuri can never be hers and decide to punish her for hurting her feelings all this time.

That is when she thought of making a scandal which would make people suspect of their relationship, making use of Syuri's trip to visit their mother's grave with Syusuke. And she did it perfectly. She is even the one who drew the love umbrella on the blackboard one day that cause Syuri to run out of the classroom and knock onto her. Syuri is definitely hurt by that and Asami enjoyed seeing her like this. Even when they were heading to the hospital and hearing how sad Syuri is when talking about what happened to her recently, she was enjoying it.

But when Syuri become in danger of becoming a sacrifice for Kaji, Asami did not know what overcame her and have her leap in and save Syuri, injuring herself in the process. When thinking of that, Asami began to cry, wondering why. Sana give her the answer.

He think that this is the real Asami. He assume that Asami still care very much for Syuri and this is the reason why she would risk her life to save her. But all that said only make Asami feel hurt. Just then, Syuri and Syusuke came, bringing a box of puddings for her. Acting as though that conversation between Sana and Asami never happen, all of them ate pudding together. When it is time for Syuri and Syusuke to go, Asami did ask Syuri to stay with her for a while alone. The boys head down to the frontyard and wait for Syuri. While doing that, Syusuke ask how he is dealing with Nanaka. He can see that Nanaka has become less tense and wonder what Sana did to her. Sana just said that he has promised Nanaka that he will protect her forever. Syusuke just say that it is good to hear that. Just then, Syuri run out of the hospital looking for Syusuke. She is crying as Syusuke ask why. Sana can only stand beside them feeling angry of his helplessness.

Later at night, Syuri is seen at the living room watching television when her father return home. He ask where Saeko, her stepmother, is. Syuri merely replied that she has attended her middle school class reunion dinner. Her father then tell her that the departure date for her to go to London is confirmed and it is on this Saturday. He wants her to pack her bags before that. Syuri return back to her room to do just that. He has no idea that she actually head to Syusuke's room to tell him what she has just found out. She then hint Syusuke whether if they would do that thing. Syusuke seem determined. Syuri just had to thank him for that.

Back to school at lunchtime, Syusuke and Syuri ate with their friends as usual. Syuri tell them that she will be leaving for London soon. No one is really happy to hear that. Sana tries to cheer everyone up by saying that this will not be the last time they all will eat together. He still carries the thought that someday this chance to do this will come again.

However, Sana will discover how painful it is for someone that close to him to leave and it will not be just Syuri alone. When lunchtime is over, everyone return to class. However, Syuri and Syusuke were not seen there. Yuzuki happens to the next teacher in class and noticed it, joking that they should tell her first if they want to skip class. Everyone in class laughed except for Sana who wondered where they are. Then suddenly, he remember what is said by Syusuke at the hospital the other time and that look on his frustrated look on his face when Aoi said that this might not be eternal farewell between them and Syuri, and assumed something. He immediately ran out of the classroom and head to the train station.

At that location, Syusuke is seen with luggage and all. Syuri arrives with a pair of sunglasses and is asked by Syusuke why she has that on. Syuri jokingly said that wearing this feel more like they are running away. She then notice the luggage and thank him for bringing them out as well as doing all this for her. It did not take long before the train arrives. But just as it did, they notice Sana arriving as well. However, they still boarded the train, ignoring him. Sana did not give up just yet. He rushed out of the train station and head to somewhere. But he almost knocked down Aoi's mother on the bike. Seeing that bike, he asked the mother to lend him first. He then ride all the way towards the bridge where the border of the town is and started shouting at Syusuke. Even though Syuri and Syusuke cannot hear anything, Syusuke knew what Sana is actually saying and remembered that he did the exact same thing the last time Sana left town. He wept as the train moves away and never turn back.

12 "Red Memory"
"Akai Kioku" (赤い記憶)

Going to school the next day after Syuri's and Syusuke's sudden departure, Sana and Aoi were seen walking towards there as usual but with saddened looks on their faces. At one point, Sana thought that Syuri has greeted him and turn around suddenly, only to see a stunned Nanaka standing behind him. Nanaka is terribly saddened herself remembering that two of her best friends have left town while greeting Sana at the same time. In class, a saddened Sana remember his friends and saw their empty seats in class. Later, walking out of the restroom, he hear schoolmates talking about the sudden departure of Syuri and Syusuke and their conversation wasn't pleasant at all (Talk about incest). During lunchtime, in an attempt to cheer everyone up, Aoi prepares a sumptuous bento for Sana and Nanaka but neither of them were in the mood to eat at all. Aoi is disappointed that her method of comfort did not work on them. Returning back to his apartment, he is frustrated by why Syusuke never tell him what he is about to do with her twin sister. Just then, a delivery arrived. Sana find out that it is from Syuusuke but wasn't able to find out where he is right now since he never write it down and not even the phone number.

Later, he went to the supermarket to resupply himself with food and find himself winning a prize in a promotion lucky draw: a bottled drink. On his way back, he find Yuzuki in the park, looking very depressed. He went over to greet her and discover that she is thinking about Syuri and Syuusuke. She is pondering why they did not discuss their escape from town with her but is able to figure out that she might not be of any help to them at all. She understand that they might have already realized it and decide not to seek help from her at all. But she would have hoped that they would at least do that. That would let her feel a bit better. That is how she think she is comforting herself. Sana beg to differ. Remembering the free drink he received, Sana tries to cheer her teacher with it, giving that to her as a reward for her hard work. Yuzuki gladly receive it and drink that eventually, cheering up instantly. That is what she said.

The next day during lunchtime, Sana suggested he, Nanaka and Aoi head back to the Kotsuchi River for another camping trip. Everyone agreed. When that day came, Sana remember to bring the delivery that Syusuke sent to him to the camping trip, knowing that it is a fishing pole, perhaps Syusuke's most treasured one. Just then, the phone rang. It happens to be Aoi that sounded sick and tell him that she wouldn't be going to the river today. She ask Sana to go with Nanaka and have a good time. Her excuse is a cold but she actually doesn't look like she has any of that at all. As it turn out, she is never sick. As soon as she ended the phone conversation, her mother 'attacked' her from behind, grabbing her well developed assets. Aoi screamed and ask what her mother is trying to do. She is merely wanting to know why Aoi would fake illness and ask her two best friends to go on a camping trip without her. Aoi replied saying that she think Nanaka is the most affected by the sudden departure by Syuri and Syusuke and believe that Sana will be able to cheer Nanaka up better without her. Even though she is saddened by this fact as well, Aoi believed that it will be alright with her since she is the eldest amongst them. She had to be strong. Her mother is glad that Aoi's assets aren't the only thing that has grown up. She prepares to bake a chocolate cake to reward her daughter but she has to help out as well. Aoi of course agreed.

Sana eventually met Nanaka who find out from her that Aoi call her yesterday that she is not feeling well and wouldn't be coming for the camping trip today. Sana did not say anything. Nanaka saw the delivery which is in the form of a bag and realize that it is Syusuke's fishing rod. Sana tell her that it is sent to him yesterday and Syusuke wants him to use it. At the camping site, Sana tries to fix the bait onto the fishing rod but find some problem in doing so. Nanaka, watching closely beside him, wonder if he knew what he is doing but Sana ask her to be patient. She did, sitting on a rock behind him and waited. Finally, Sana fixed the bait up onto the fishing rod and he is ready for some fishing. Nanaka is getting really impatient and ask whether he would catch some fish in the end. Sana just tell her to have some faith in him. But in the end, he caught nothing. Thankfully, Nanaka has prepared some food in advance. Together with Sana's rice balls, it would be efficient. Sana ask why she would do that. It seems that Aoi already tell her to prepare something else beforehand to go to the camping trip just in case. Sana is disappointed that no one trust him. He then realize that Nanaka is cooking for her and wonder if that is possible. He almost made her mad. But when she show what she has, Sana is shocked. There were just cookies and omelet. It appear that this are the only things she knew how to make. Sana did ate the omelet while Nanaka wonder whether it suit his taste. He just said that it is good. Nanaka cannot believe it and tries to reconfirm again. Sana then say that it is good because it is Nanaka who made them. Nanaka blushed instantly. After lunch, they started playing around the river until they are tired. While Nanaka dried her legs, Sana suggested they walk up the river later since there is something he wants to show her. Nanaka is okay with it but ask what he is hoping to show her. Sana never say.

As they made their way up the mountain, dark clouds began to cover the sky with Nanaka wondering if it is necessary for them to go so deep right now. Sana said that it is fine since he knows where he is going right now. Nanaka didn't quite trust him since he has made a mess out of his fishing. Sana guarantee that nothing will happen with this. Just then, rain started to fall. Nanaka ask whether they should go back. Sana insisted on advancing forward. Nanaka has no other choice but to follow him. Eventually, they reach a cave. As they were trying their best to dry themselves, Nanaka ask where they are. Sana joked that this is a cave where a bear is hibernating inside. Nanaka is frightened by that until Sana admit that he is just kidding. He then switch on a flashlight and started walking in with Nanaka asking where he is going. He ask her to follow him. As they went in, Nanaka wonder if creepy crawlers that roams in the night might came out and suck their blood, feeling rather fearful about that. Sana assure her that nothing will happen. Soon, they reach a dead end. Sana then flash the light towards the roof of the cave and ask Nanaka to look up. They saw things sparking under the light and look beautiful. Nanaka think of it as a starry sky.

Sana said that this is actually a secret place between him and Syusuke. They were trying to find the source of the river when they stumbled upon this. The two has sworn never to tell this to anyone. Hearing that Nanaka wonder why Sana bring her here today and break the promise. He did not say much. He will just apologize to Syusuke when they met the next time. Just then, the flashlight went out with Nanaka thinking that Sana is playing a trick on her again. Sana denied that and ask that they rest here until the rain has stopped. Nanaka reluctantly agreed. While they did that, Nanaka ask about Sana's wristwatch and ask if it is a present from a girlfriend. Sana denied it and say nothing else. Sana then ask Nanaka why she put so many letters into their personal mail post and not send one to him directly. She said that she is scared since she is a changed person after the arson and wonder whether he would accept her as she is again. She is troubled by the fact that he might change as well. That is why by putting those letters into the personal mail post, she thought that she can contact the Sana she knew during the elementary days. She has stopped playing the violin at that time since it give her so much pain whenever she touch it. The doctor say that it might be related to her lost memories. But when he return and show her that he has never change a bit, Nanaka is truly happy... happy to have the Sana she know, the Sana she loved back again.

The next thing she knew, she woke up in the darkness and find Sana nowhere. Nanaka started to look for him and came to the entrance of the cave, noticing that the sun is setting. Orange light is shining into the cave, causing her to remember about the orange fire of the arson. She instantaneously fell into a trance and started walking forward and eventually out of the cave and towards the edge of a cliff right in front of its entrance. Sana is just outside stretching himself when he saw Nanaka. At first, he did not realize Nanaka cannot hear him anymore. When she reach the cliff and did not back away, Sana discover that something is wrong and immediately went to catch the falling Nanaka. Thankfully, he is able to do so. When he ask whether she is alright, Nanaka tell him that she remembered everything now, mentioning her parents and her sensei?! She went berserk after that.

13 "Bonds"
"Kizuna" (きずな)

Nanaka remember the past. She is seen as her younger self playing the violin to her music teacher. She is playing it well enough to earn his praise. Just then, her mother enter the room asking him to come down with them for tea. He initially refused but seeing how Nanaka wants him to do so, he agreed. He later stayed for dinner. At the living/dining room, Nanaka is seen pouring some beer to her father. Taking a sip of it, he praises how wonderful it is to be drinking beer poured by his daughter. The music teacher then ask if he is disturbing their family gathering with him around. The father said no since they have been friends since high school. He has already treated him as one of his own. But the music teacher argue that the mother always call him so formally and ask the father to persuade her not to do that again. The mother defended herself that he is Nanaka's music teacher and she should give him some respect. The music teacher, Sakuraba Kaoru, can only sigh helplessly.

The scene then change to the hospital where the music teacher is hospitalized. He looks to be in a poor state of health as Nanaka is seen sitting by his side. Nanaka notice that he has grown thinner and ask if he is alright. He can only say no. He urges Nanaka to find a new music teacher to replace him but Nanaka refused. She only want him to teach her the violin and no one else. Sakuraba Kaoru , the music teacher, is happy to hear that but he knows he wouldn't be out of the hospital for the short period in time. Nanaka insist that she wait until he is discharged. Unfortunately for her, that would never happen.

Sakuraba died later with Nanaka and her parents there to send him off for the last time. Nanaka's mother is seen very upset by his death while her father looks as though he is ready to kill someone. A few days later at night, Nanaka hear something like a slap. She went to find out and saw her father standing over her mother with her holding her right cheek. He then said that Nanaka isn't her daughter and the girl find it hard to believe. Her mother admitted it saying that she already had Nanaka before their marriage. The father asked why she did not tell him in the first place. The mother replied saying that she fear he would want her to abort Nanaka. The father agreed strongly. The mother knew it and said that even if he ask her to abort her, she will never do that. She then said that Nanaka is the product of her and Sakuraba, the music teacher. The father then understand why Nanaka look very much like him and said that this is the reason why she wants Sakuraba to be her music teacher. The mother admit it again, saying that she wants Sakuraba to reach out to her daughter and have her inherit his talents. This is when the father cannot take it anymore and started to beat her up once more.

Nanaka is frightened by that and cannot believe that she is actually her music teacher's daughter. She literally run back up to her room and tried to think that nothing has happened, hoping that when tomorrow arrives, everything will go back to normal. Unfortunately, it is not to be so. Suddenly, she hear thrashing sound and decide to go back down and take a look. What she saw terrified her. Her mother is down on the ground unconscious. Her father look as though he has become insane. Kerosene can be seen everything soaked in their clothing. Her father has a lighter and he did not hesitate to light it up. Nanaka can only watch as her father waste no time to drop the lighter into a pool of kerosene on the floor and ignite the whole living room. Nanaka can only watch as the fire engulfed her parents and ran back to her room fearfully. She then saw the fire moving up to the second floor where her room is, deciding that it is time for her to bail out. Bringing the hairband Sana give to her and her violin, she leaped out of the window to safety.

The scene return back to the place outside the cave with her telling what exactly happened that cause the arson. She looks as though she is in a daze as Sana held her tightly, asking her not to remember all those things anymore. He eventually brought her back home with her uncle asking him later what happened. Sana told him and that prompt the old man to say that he knew it. Sana initially thought that he already knew what happened but Nanaka's uncle just said that this is what he expected. He knew that Nanae Yatsushiro, Nanaka's mother, Tsumuhiko Yatsushiro, her younger brother and husband of Nanae as well as Kaoru Sakuraba, are close friends during their high school days. They have been very close even after Tsumuhiko and Nanae got married and often went out together. When Nanaka is in middle school, Sakuraba is admitted into the hospital due to cancer. His cancer is terminal and it is found out that Sakuraba told Tsumuhiko about Nanaka not being his daughter before he died. It seems that he cannot die deceiving his best friend. Finding that out, Tsumuhiko is furious. He told this to him in a bar and said that he will kill Nanae for deceiving him. Nanaka's uncle regretted that he would have treated his words seriously. He only pity Nanaka for being someone who is most hurt in this situation even though she has done nothing wrong. When he find out that she has lost her memories during the time of the fire, he would have hoped that she will not remember. He is right to have wished that she never remembered.

From that day onwards, Nanaka isn't seen out of her room at all. Everyday, Sana came to her uncle's home to look for her and he never get the chance to do so. Days goes by and finally one day, a chance arrives. Sana is seen making his way to Nanaka's home again when he meet her aunt outside. She is about to go buy some ingredients for tonight's dinner and wonder if he is there trying to see Nanaka. She allow him to stay in the house as she left for the supermarket even though Sana said that it wouldn't be nice. While in the house, Sana sought to call Nanaka out. He soon find out that the door is left unlocked and Nanaka is seen nowhere in sight in the room. He immediately become extremely worried about her and started searching for her in the house. He finally found her to be in the bathroom. Relieved he went back to the living room to wait for her. But as time passes by, Sana become worried about Nanaka again. He went to ask Nanaka why she is inside the bathroom for so long. When Nanaka did not answer back, he suddenly remembered what he has done in the past which he so much want to stop Nanaka from doing. He immediately rushed in and saw Nanaka in the bathtub full of her blood. He fear the worse as well as the blood in the water but still manage to gather his courage and get Nanaka out of there and call for an ambulance.

Days later, she return home. Sana came to see her again even though he is not welcomed. He enter her room and ask why she would commit suicide. The answer is obvious as Nanaka did not bother to tell him. But after he insist on her answering him, rebuking him and saying that he will never understand why she do it. Sana beg to differ. He started to take off the wristwatch and show her the scar on his left wrist. He said that he is bullied by his fellow students during his middle school days. At first, he tried to ignore them and endure the abuse. But at one point, he just cannot take it anymore and committed suicide. He survived but he is never the same as before. He is absent from school due to the slightest problem all his middle school days and when he eventually go to high school, he become antisocial. That is the reason he came back. It is like what Nanaka did trying to put letters into their personal mail post. As she wanted to make contact with the old Sana, Sana himself came back to try to make contact with his old friends and hopefully regain himself. He then mention that when he wake up in the hospital, he wondered why is he still alive because he realize that if he is dead, he would be free from this pain. But now, he regretted doing that to himself because if he would have died, he wouldn't be able to meet Nanaka again and stop her from taking his footsteps. All Nanaka can only do is to do nothing at all.

Ten years later, the scene changes Hinako's home. Her older self is seen preparing to go out with someone. It turn out to be Youta, Asami's cousin. At the nature park where a concert is being performed, an older Aoi is seen making her way to the concert hall. Just then, she saw someone that look like Asami and make her way towards her. She is right as Aoi thank her for being able to keep the nature park as it is today. Because if she did not make an effort not to demolish here just to build a town hall, they wouldn't be here for a concert. Just as Asami think that she have to leave, Aoi is seen pulling her to the concert hall. Hints that Syuri and Syusuke came to the concert hall is seen as well. At the backstage, Nanaka is preparing herself for the concert when Sana came in with something to say to her. He has a ring with him right now. Later, Sana met Yuzuki at the audience area as she ask him about his proposal. Sana merely give her a thumb up. To congratulate him, Yuzuki give him a caramel as a reward. Sana gratefully accepted it. Before long, Nanaka is seen on stage. She thanked everyone for coming here and get ready for her musical performance. She is seen with Sana's ring as well. The tune she will be performing is the completed version of the tune she has played to Sana before he left town years ago. Its title is Myself; Yourself. The End
