What happened last Meeting

at Sandgate Toastmasters

11th June 2002

We welcomed back our guest Fay, who had attended a previous meeting. Also Neville, who will soon be inducted into our club.

Round Robin
This week was Queensland week, so Liz asked, "What do you like about Queensland?"
Some of the answers included the warm climate, relaxed lifestyle, friendly atmosphere, acceptance of  others, and football teams.

Table Topics
Christal's topic questions were rather long and involved but they were something like:

1. "Why do journalists approach sports people when they are out of breath after a race and ask 'How do you feel?'"

2. "Tell us about the rabbit that the greyhounds run after"

3. "How would you respond to the media question 'How do you think your team will play?'"

4. "How would you promote synchronised swimming?"

5.  "Why do women beach volley ball players wear bikinis, while men players wear shorts and singlets?"

6. "Do sports segments on the news represent the  interests of sporting Australians?"

Speeches
Caroline and Narda both presented their 8th speech in the communication and Leadership Manual.
The criteria for this speech was to show skill in the use of props.

"What are little boys made of?" was Caroline's very humorous speech about the boys in her life. She showed the holes in her son's trousers, the cushion that they stuff their lolly wrappers in and the books that they read.

"Nostalgia" Narda reminisced about making her debut at a ball. For props, she used music and called upon some of the audience to demonstrate a waltz.

Jokes
Due to a shorter programme, there was time for a few jokes. John, Caroline and Joyce rose to the occasion.
