9th July 2002
Guest
We welcomed two guests, Lin and Sarah.
Induction of New Member
Neville was
welcomed into our club as a member.
Round Robin
Neville
asked, "What memories does the Brisbane Show or 'Exhibition' evoke?"
Some answers included - the smells of the animals and hot dogs
etc, goldfish in a bag, riding the Zipper, the Chair-O-Plane, losing a wallet,
sample bags, the ring events, the gadget man, the woodchop event, fireworks
and the freezing cold at night.
Table Topics
Table
Topics are getting more and more impossible lately! Joyce's topics were more
like Trivia questions but her victims, Kellie, Liz, Narda and Neville coped
surpisingly well. No one knew the answers, but spoke about what they did
know.
1. "Describe the flag of Argentina."
2. "Why did the cow
jump over the moon?"
3. "How
often are balls changed in a tournament?"
4. "What are the Queen's
racing colours?"
Speeches
1. "Exercise can be fun" It was Del's 4th speech from
the Communication and Leadership Manual. She demonstrated good use
of gestures in an amusing account of a paper chase.
2.. "Moonlight Sonata" Garth wove a fascinating story about
Winston Churchill and the Enigma machine during the war against Germany.
It was his 9th speech.
3. "The Last of the Snake Oil Salesmen" Narda tried to "sell"
us a jar of ointment that cures everything and has a multitude of uses.
It was an animated amusing speech. Her 9th speech.
Hot Seat
Liz was programmed to fill in the segment if one of the speakers
was unable to present their speech. She did this by presenting a book review
on "The Poisonwood Bible" which was written by Barbara Kingsolver. It is
the story of an American missionary Nathan Price and his family in Belgian
Congo.
Awards
Trish had trouble rising to present the awards because the laces on her boots
had tangled together, but she managed to arrive at the lectern to present:
