-Carnaval: introduction of vocabulary and events surrounding the French Canadian celebration of Carnaval

-French is taught using the four modes/skills of learning.  This means that all students have the opportunity to learn through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

-Discussion: last week’s evaluation of pages 10-15 of student duotangs

-Revisit Sweet & Sour

-Activity: Mixing Liquids (completion by comparing and sharing results from last week’s experiments)

-Teacher Demo: Liquid Layers (students will see how various liquids layer via a demonstration) + completion of page 20 of their duotang

-Activity: Science Inquiry (students are given the task of dissolving LifeSavers according to the Fair Test method to see how successful they are in making one LifeSaver dissolve more quickly than another)

-Homework (due Tuesday at the beginning of class): Science Inquiry #2 – Students build upon their learning by choosing and recording another method to make a LifeSaver dissolve more quickly.

Art

-We will continue to use our art techniques, the use of fonts, misting and wet-on-wet painting by applying these techniques to our daily work assignments in order to embellish them in preparation for grade 6 achievement and to present our work in a prideful manner.

Tuesday: 1) Math: MQ162 all; MQ163 all  2) Science: We talked about pages ten to fifteen of our notes, today.  We worked as a community of scientists, too, in completing our Mixing Liquids activity, notes and diagrams.  3) We saw an entertaining production by Les Bûcherons during this afternoon’s assembly.  4) I have two letters for you from the school.

Wednesday: 1) Math: MQ164, 165 all  2) We are working on designing a fair test in science class.  3) We are learning a Carnaval song in French class.  4) We have no journal entry this week as we are finishing our Hatchet: Cessna 406 posters.
Thursday: 1) Math: MQ166 #1-8  2) We are continuing our study of a fair test with our first science inquiry.  3) We have library tomorrow.  4) Our small class has been challenged to contribute one hundred cans of food for our school’s One Hundred Day food drive.  We plan to make a castle outside our classroom door.
Friday: 1) Math: MQ167 #1-6; MQ168 all  2) Some students have already handed in their Hatchet: Cessna 406 poster that is due Monday morning.  3) I’m bringing home the lyrics to Étienne’s Au Carnaval in order to memorize them for an assembly in two weeks.
