Promised Land

------

Creature Files will make you aware of those beasts that walk the Eleusian plane along with the mortals and gods.

------

CREATURES

While the Eleusians are as diverse and interesting as the Gods who rule above them, blessed for their patronage with magic and good fortune, there are more than just mortals living in the shadow of Mt. Olympus.
Fantastic creatures, some far from human in appearance, all wander the neighboring forests, caves, and rivers. Some, in fact, can even be found hidden within the boundaries of mortal society as well. Proud centaurs, elusive nymphs, and merry satyrs make their homes not far from Eleusia, with their own societies, and intriguing magical powers granted by their divine patrons. It is good to remember that mortals do not take kindly to creatures.
It is possible to play one of these creatures, or in rare cases, something even more exotic, here on Shadow of Olympus.

CENTAURS

The centaurs are a race of tribal creatures, bearing the shape of a half-man, half-horse, with the man's torso supplanted where the horse's head would be. They have been known, oddly enough, as both wise, kind, intelligent creatures, and as brutal monsters. The truth hangs somewhere in the balance, or merely varies from individual to individual, as with any mortal.
Groups of centaurs may join together, forming small settlements or moving as a single nomadic herd. It is just as common for a single centaur to travel alone, or claim some section of land as his personal territory. Yet for safety, the former is much more common. It is equally common that natural leaders will emerge from the strongest of warriors, or the eldest and wisest of centaurs. Such simply depends on the composition of the group.

SATYRS

Satyrs are in many ways the male counterparts to nymphs. Forest creatures, generally, they take the form of a man with the legs of a goat. Most are extraordinarilly hairy, with beards, chest and back hair. Sometimes little horns on the forehead or temples are included as well. Merry and playful like no other, and equally as fond of a trick or prank as their female counterparts, the satyrs are known fora strong affinity to wine and women alike, both of which they could typically be found enjoying from time to time.
They are often known to get into small quarrels and prank-contests with nymphs and centaurs, though the latter do not take kindly to the satyr's humor. Satyrs are most often solitary, with a few notable exceptions. Wooded glades might occasionally be host to a small gathering of the creatures, where, under the blessing of Dionysus, they will hold tremendous drinking parties and share tales of their various adventures and conquests. Older satyrs might gather more frequently, when the lively pastimes of their youth grew too trying, and sit around sharing ale and stories of their better days.
Just as there is a dark side to Dionysus, there is a dark side to the Satyr. They have been known to take young women from their homes and bring them to the forests. What they do with them there has not been determined, since the women never return. They've also been known to set fires within cities that disrespect them. They answer to no one, except for their elders and Dionysus himself.

NYMPHS

These minor divine creatures are guardian spirits, found in the form of pretty youths that preside over certain pieces of nature. The dryad, for example, watches the forests, usually a particular tree, where as the naiads will watch over a stream, or nereids over a bit of the Mediterranean. There are also oreads, which live in the mountains. In general, these entities are frolicsome and playful, known for playing tricks on those within their 'area'. Woe betide those who might damage a nymph's protected place. Not only would the resident nymph punish such an offender, but also the gods would be as quick to punish were the location to be destroyed.
Bound by geography, the nymphs are not known for socializing with their own kind. The different subtypes would hardly ever communicate, and even those of the same variety would more often than not have their own little area, and not often share it with others. Still, some nymphs, such as the river-dwelling naiads, might watch an area in a small group.
