Prerana - A Presentation of Odissi Classical Dance

The study of the many traditional performing arts of Orissa has influenced the choreographer to create these Odissi dance pieces with new expressions and new creative energy.

* Shiva-Parvati Shabda explores the masculine and feminine styles and expressions in Odissi classical dance.
* Krishna is a series of four dramatic sequences taken from Krishna's life.
* Chandan Jatra takes us a few hundred years back when temple dancers performed ritualistic dances in the colourful festivals of the Jagannatha Temple of Puri.
* Ramasthakam describes the achievements of Sri Rama, the incarnation of God Vishnu.

Shrungar unfolds the lyrical grace, the sculptress poses and the vitality of Odissi dance and the lilting music which accompanies it.
* Samudra Mantham Gods and Demons churn the ocean for Ambrosia. Vishnu transforms himself into the seductress - Mohini and gives the Ambrosia to the Gods. Mohini dances the dance of Victory and the entire Universe dances with her.
* Ghanta-Vadya-Mokshya is the concluding dance - the dance of salvation, inspired by the traditional Mrudanga and Ghanta Vadya players of Orissa.
