This is the oldest fan I have!
It is dated around the mid to late 1800's
It was given to me by my husband about 10 years ago
as a gift at Christmastime.
It is black ostrich feathers, with a tortoise shell frame.
When closed it measures 18 inches.
Also, when enclosed in a box for any period of time,
you can STILL smell the odor of 'stale' perfume and
tobacco.
Makes one wonder who was the owner of this fan and
what it was used with!
As you can see it SURELY is a work of art!
and why I PRIZE this fan so much!
I keep it enclosed, behind glass, for
preservation.
