Compassionate Friend

I can tell by your look friend that we need to talk
So come take my hand and let's go for a walk
See I'm not like the others, I won't shy away
Because I want to hear what you've got to say

Your child has died and you need to be heard
But they don't want to hear a single word
They tell you your child's with God so be strong
They say all the 'right' things that sound somehow wrong

They're just hurting for you and trying to say
They'd give anything to take your pain away
But they struggle with feelings they can't understand
So forgive them for not offering a surer hand

I'll walk in your shoes for more than a mile
I'll wait while you cry and be glad when you smile
I won't criticize you or judge you or scorn
I'll just stay by your side 'til your night turns to morn

Yes the journey is hard and unbearably long
And I know that you're thinking you're not all that strong
So just take my hand cause I've good time to spare
And I know how it hurts, friend, for I have been there

See, I owe a large debt you can help me repay
For not long ago I was helped the same way
And I stumbled and fell through a world so unreal
So believe me when I say I know how you feel

I don't look for praise or financial gain
And I'm not the kind who gets joy out of pain
I'm just a strong builder who'll be there 'til the end
Someone who will be your compassionate friend

"My Mum Is A Survivor"

My Mum is a survivor,
or so I've heard it said,
But I hear her crying at night,
when all others are in bed.

I watch her lay awake at night,
and go to hold her hand.
She doesn't know I'm with her,
to help her understand.

But like the sands on the beach,
that never wash away,
I watch over my surviving mum,
who thinks of me each day.

She wears a smile for others,
a smile of disguise,
But through heaven's door,
I see tears flowing from her eyes.

My mum tries to cope with death,
to keep my memory alive,
But anyone who knows her,
knows it's her way to survive.

As I watch over my surviving mum,
through heaven's open door,
I try to tell her that angels,
protect me forever more.

But I know that doesn't help her,
or ease the burden she bears,
So if you get a chance, go visit her,
and show her that you care,

For no matter what she says,
no matter what she feels,
My surviving mum has a broken heart,
that time won't ever heal!

"My Dad Is A Survivor"

My dad is a survivor too...
which is no surprise to me.
He's always been like a lighthouse,
that helps you cross a stormy sea.

But, I walk with my dad each day,
to lift him when he's down.
I wipe away the tears he hides from others.
He cries when no one's around.

I watch him sit up late at night,
with my picture in his hand.
He cries as he tries to grieve alone,
and wishes he could understand.

My dad is like a tower of strength,
he's the greatest of them all!!
But there's times when he needs to cry...
Please be there when he falls.

Hold his hand or pat his shoulder...
and tell him it's okay.
Be his strength when he's sad,
help him mourn in his own way.

Now, as I watch over my precious dad,
from the heaven's up above...
I'm so proud that he's a survivor,
and I can still feel his love!!

The Mention Of His Name

"The mention of my child's name,
may bring tears to my eyes,
But it never fails to bring music
to my ears"

"If you are really my friend,
Let me hear the beautiful music
of his name.
It soothes my broken heart
and sings to my soul"
