As other operating systems have their own special applications, Linux also has them!
If you've read carefully the Debian's Installation Document, then you might know about dselect. Dselect is a program to get "packages" (RPMs, DEBs) of programs (really useful programs), such as:
dosemu,
the DOS emulator for Linux. It's able to run several DOS apps, such as PKZip,
PKUnZip, DosKey (although you won't need it), MSBackup, etc.dosfstools,
the DOS FileSystem tools, including an utility to format disks with the DOS FAT-16
Filesystem.bsdgames,
a collection of games ported from BSD.gcc,
the GNU C Compiler. I suggest you download it, because all of the software that
you'll download from the Internet require compiling.make,
the GNU Make tool. Also, as GCC, it's a good idea if you're going to download
Internet software. Requires GCC.cdtool,
a tool for controlling your CD-ROM drive as a CD Player, command based.gpm,
a tool for controlling your mouse from within text-based programs.xpm4.7,
the Pixmap Libraries, for the X Window System.tin,
a newsreader.lynx, a
web browser from within X Window System.xaw3d,
Athena 3-D Widgets, for the X Window System.Of course, these are only suggestions, but be sure to start dselect as root, for a complete listing of all the kool applicationz that you will be able to find with Linux!
