Above is the West Yard in spring. Foxglove dominate the scene at this time of the year, dwarfing California poppy, perennial batchelor's button, calendula and red lupine. A few Black Eyed Susans have started to bloom, this year ahead of the red and orange Oriental Poppies. Later, Penstemon, Stargazer Liatrus (Gayfeather) and Delphinium will provide contrast to the reds and golds of geum and gaillardia, as will white shasta dasies and hybrid lilies.
The view of the upper South Yard in late spring. Oriental poppies, white delphinium in bud, pink dianthus, Victorian Sage and several (white and pink) peonies are in bloom now. Later, Monarda will take the place of the poppies. Bonita roses at far end against deck. Click on the picture to get a different, larger view.
