Colors in The Garden
I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers. - Claude Monet
If, I can someday see M. Claude Monet's garden, I feel sure that I shall see something that is not so much a garden of flowers as of colours and tones, less an old-fashioned flower garden than a colour garden, so to speak, one that achieves an effect not entirely nature's, because it was planted so that only the flowers with matching colours will bloom at the same time, harmonized in an infinite stretch of blue or pink."
- Marcel Proust, "Splendours". Le Figaro, June 15, 1907
Pinks, blues, purples and burgundies are my favorite color combination. Deep burgandy can be found in Gladiolas, Monarda, Chocolate Scabiosa, Daylilies, Petunias and in garden Mums, to name just a few choices! Although I have mostly perennials, I often add petunias, lobelia or other annuals to fill in just the right color.   A rose shade can be found in Mums, Cistus (try Cistus Purpureis), Cosmos, Verbena, Calla Lily, Cyclamen, Yarrow, and Armeria, or sea thrift, a good, low growing ground cover with pink or white globe like flowers 6" above a mound of dark grass.

Hardy Gloxinia
Hardy Gloxinia has dark pink, tubular flowers about 3" long on the established plant. Gets between 24 to 36". Leaves like some protection from the sun.
Most of my "old-fashioned" peonies grow among the reds, pinks and purples you've seen in beds one and two of the south yard. The following colorful flowers take over after the peonies have made their show.
