Siberian Iris

Here are some of my favorite parts from the south yard. I'm starting with the pond, which is in the blue to pink section. Well, ok, I put a few other colors in there, too. Here we see primarily tiers one and two, with the peony bed at the far southwest end. The pond is near the bottom of the deck steps; the Herb Garden is just to the right of that.

Pond in SpringThe pond in spring. Fresh blooming bulbs like these Red Peony Tulips abound in the yard, taking over while Day Lillies and Dahlias mature. Blooming purple bush is "Bowles Hybrid Mauve" wall flower. It gets 3' by 3', but becomes woody in a few years and needs replacement. I think it's worth the effort.

Pond in SummerIn summer, the pond is surrounded by dahlias, Bowles Hybrid Mauve Wallflower, Purple Victorian sage, corkscrew grass and Japanese Blood Grass. In the pond are water lillies and Umbrella Plant. The "Frog King" you see there gaurds the many polliwogs. The tree frogs, however, are on thier own.

Siberian Iris, Foxglove, LupineView from the back of the pond: If you want to create a symphony in pinks and purples, start with the many shades of Siberian and Japanese "Kaemperi" Irises. Other flowers you see here are Blue Lupine, Strawberry Foxglove, Violet Victorian Sage. In the background are pink Bonita Roses, Lavender-blue Ramona Clematis, and Passion Flower.
