Across from the walkway by the herb bed are Bonita roses, back-dropped by the deck railing. The railing is filled with Passion Flower vine and Clematis. I also grow garlic and Egyptian Onion in this rose bed. Garlic is said to ward off aphids.
Bonita Roses (Jackson and Perkins) are very hardy, unusually disease-resistant, and abundant. I cut them way back each year, but still need to stake up the branches due to the heavy amount of blooms.
This shows the 2nd tier of the 3-tiered south garden, with the pond at the northeast side. The tiers are divided by camas rock and flagstone walkways, courtesy of us, of course. Peonies, delphinum and foxglove are in bloom. Pink oriental poppies are in the forefront. Click on picture for a fuller view.
You cannot closely see the small, deep purple and purple-pink flowers, so I made a cutout of them at the top of the page. These are Allium Purple Sensation (30") and Allium Christophil (15"). In reality the Christophil, more on the pinkish-lavender side, were much bigger--some spanned over 8" in a perfect round circle.
