Peonies Page 4

Sarah Bernhardt, above, is a beautiful shade of pink, pastel, yet with body. Very full and fragrant. An old favorite. I bought 6 more of these roots last year.

Peach SorbetThe Peony Sorbet flower resembles Sarah Bernhardt, but has a peachy glow. Since this was its first year, I didn't stake it up. Mistake! It had more flowers than many peonies I've owned over two years. In the Pacific Northwest climate, all peonies need to be staked after the first year. The flower heads are so large and heavy that their weight alone, even without rain and wind, will not always be supported even by the sturdiest stems.

Vivid RoseclearVivid Rose, a beautiful rose-shaded double lactiflora, seems to be tipped with silver. Very fragrant; developed by Khlem, 1952.

Rasberry IceRasberry Ice, a double rose lactiflora, C.G. Klehm, 1980. Very similar, in color, to Gay Paree. We had a very wet and windy spring here in the Northwest, so it was not a good year for peonies. In this case I had to use last year's picture.
