Take
Home Product
The take home product will be a memorable and lasting experience for many visitors. The development team considered many design factors and arrived at a 'Decoder Product' that can be reliably assembled in the exhibit and offer customization options that will appeal to a wide range of visitors. The product consists of five plastic,
glow in the dark, concentric rings. Two graphic options will be offered,
one for the top and one for the bottom of the object. Several options
have been prototyped and include the following:
one of the following for a third 'mature audience' (top) option
A third graphic option will allow visitors to either select a detailed graphic or capture an image of their own face, and add their initials to personalize the piece. This graphic will be laser etched onto a small disc and assembled in the center of the product. The take home product will be customized, assembled, and packaged on a Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Line. The centerpiece of the exhibit is the CIM line, which demonstrates many components of a modern assembly line. Conveyors, part feeders, assembly pallets, pneumatic pick and place machines, programmable robotic arms, computers, sensors, and switches all working together demonstrate the technologies and capabilities of modern manufacturing. The CIM line demonstrates the power of
engineered innovation and is the quintessential demonstration of manufacturing
power. The combination of hands-on learning in a truly uncommon classroom
in conjunction with a product made just for them that they can take home
will be a truly memorable experience.
