Silver Jet is currently working on their
latest album. No national tour is scheduled for this summer. I
know, I know... but be patient, Kids! It'll be worth the wait.
Trust me. In the mean time, Happy Meals vol. 2 has
just been released! Silver Jet's "On The
Fence" is featured on the CD. More info on the
where, how, and how much will be
posted soon. As always, The Scene will keep you updated on the
latest developments.
Have a great and safe summer! BE
GOOD!
May 1st
Silver Jet
performed at the Yukatan on the strip in Santa Barbara on
Saturday, April 18th. The show was only by word-of-mouth. Also
performing with Silver Jet were Summercamp and Ridel High! This show rocked! Too bad
this team can't take it on tour. This was Allysa and my dream
show... and still is... One day Allysa... one day we will see
them together!
Here's the review
from that show.
The show was at a
club called Nym, which is upstairs from a club/bar called the
Yukatan. Ridel High "warmed up" the crowd with a 30-40
minutes set. Then, Silver Jet took the stage. Jeff had a 102
fever, and they almost cancelled. The Scene's very glad they
didn't. There was no setlist anywhere, and Luke said things were
gonna be kind of unstructured, and that the guys would take a
request for every other song.A guy in the audience yelled out
"Superball", the song that has Luke and Jeff on co-lead
vocals and that was performed at their last show. The guys
cracked up and started it up! A few songs later when Luke asked
for more requests, Flis called out,"On the Fence," and
Luke obliged. Good going, Flis!
Here's the entire
setlist:
- Superball
- Let 'Em Have
It
- That Call
(they did this one for a girl in the audience who turned
19 that day)
- Like a Man (a
brand new one, a very cool one!)
- On the Fence
- Look Who's
Back
- Crack in the
Door
- Free to Roam
- Kook (again,
Luke intro'd this as "an autobiography")
- If You Could
Only See Me Now/What It's All About
- Kid
April Fool's Day
Kidz, it seems that someone may have pulled
an "April Fool's Day" on us. Silver Jet did NOT
perform last night as stated in a local entertainment newspaper.
However, don't despair! (Hey
Allysa, that sounds familiar *eg* And so it would to all of you,
too, if you took our advice on music.... for example --
Sparkler!) Another show is upcoming and The Scene will bring you
all the details as soon as we receive them so join the list and
come back here for updates!
March 30, 1998
Sorry for the short notice but we just
heard of this show. But if you checked out the Scene on a daily
basis like you were suppose to, it wouldn't be such short notice,
though, would it? :-)
Silver Jet MAY be playing
at the Mint on March 31st, Tuesday - that's TOMORROW,
Kids! The Mint is located on Pico in Hollywood. "Kick out
the fershlugginer jams with rock guitar chieftain Wayne Kramer;
also Eleni Mandell, Random."
"THE MINT, 6010 Pico Blvd.
Refurbished, expanded and boasting some of the best acoustics of
any comparable room in the city (the better to utilize a built-in
studio facility for live recording), the Mint welcomes rock,
blues and jazz performers (and, natch, fans). Music at 8 p.m.;
cover $10-$5. Full bar. All ages. (213) 954-9630."
I'll call The Mint today to confirm and
will update this page again later today.
February 28th Show
Hey Kids! From the correspondence, it
sounds like the guys had fun on the slope.
"The trip to Utah was really fun, the
snow was great and the show was too."
Hey, Kids! When you see them again, let
them know how much you appreciate them. It never occured to me
until recently but it's different playing at higher altitudes. It
takes a lot more energy and your breathing changes a lot. In
general, it's just plain harder to play physically. So, I'm
really glad the guys were able to get a little R&R out of it,
too.
February 16th Show Review
Even though it was pouring all night (El Nino be damned! Silver Jet is
playing tonight! See the pictures.) , the guys had quite a
turnout. The show at the Opium Club (see 2/5 post), according
to Jeff "was cool." They went on around 11:15 pm PST
and played a slightly different set than the one at the Viper
Room (see 1/21 post) with 2 old songs, That Call and Superball,
which was a crowd request and obviously an "oldie but
goodie."
Here's the set list:
- Darker Times
- Look Who's Back
- Crack in the Door
- Let 'Em Have It
- If, When, Or, But, Now
- That Call (Luke intro'd this as,"you know this
one.")
- Kook
- Already There
- Superball (several people in the crowd yelled it out.
A SJ oldie! Features Luke and Jeff on co-lead vocals. )
Upcoming Show
Silver Jet will be playing one show in Brian
Head, Utah, at The Lodge, on Saturday, February 28th. The show is part of a
kroq/the edge (Las Vegas) contest. It's a 3 day event. It's
basically at a ski resort. It's in southern Utah not far from Las
Vegas. Needless to say, there will be skiing or snowboarding
there all weekend. (Update:
Currently, The Lodge is totally booked of rooms. Go to the Brian
Head, Utah link to try other accommodations.)
February 5, 1998
According to Jeff, Silver Jet is confirmed
to performed on Monday, February 16, 1998 at the Opium Den.
THE OPIUM DEN, 16051/2 N. Ivar Ave., Hlywd.
A longtime locus classicus for Tinseltown rock & roll, this
time-honored, semi-trashy room continues as a home for wild times
and up-to-date sounds. Full bar. Over 21. (213) 466-7800. See
Dance Clubs for more info.
The show on 1/28 was attended by friends,
family and fans. They played for probably 45 minutes. A lot of
new materials were performed and according to one observer,
"Let 'Em Have It" is a definite
hit, no question about it!"
Here's the set list:
- Look Who's Back Crack in the Door
- Let 'Em Have It
- What It's All About
- The England Song
- Already There
- Self Employed
- Kook
- Darker Times
Encore:
- Never Never Man (according to Luke, a
"really really old one")
- Kid (which Luke intro'd as "and
as always, this one goes out to all the Kids.") (Awww... Thanks, Luke!)
The guys pulled an all-nighter in the
studio recording demos. Poor guys... how much do we appreciate
you? A LOT! Take care of yourselves and make sure you eat.
Silver Jet's Plastiqa is 120 on Matt
Levine's top 200 tracks of 1997. Thanks Jason for this info.
January 28, 1998
There may be a trailer of Zero Effect by Castle-Rock/ Sony available soon on
the web. I have formally sent the webmaster of the Castle-Rock
Zero Effect page if they would consider changing that background
sound they have on that page now to "Plastiqa." I
haven't received a reply yet. I'll let you know if I ever do or
if they ever will.
January 23, 1998
Two Silver Jet homies, Fizzy Banger (Luke's
former band) and Penny Dreadfuls (Jeff's former band) are
scheduled to perform at The Opium Den on 1/26. Who knows? Luke,
Grant and Jeff may be there to check out there buds.

Hailed as "Local Heroes," SILVER JET, will
perform at the Viper
Room on January 28th, 1998, and are
tentatively scheduled to play a show at the Opium Den on Mon.,
Feb. 16th.
Straight from the Bassist's mouth...
"We are recording some demos. Some of these songs will end
up on our record, but some may not. We just want to get stuff
down on tape, so we can get an objective view of the songs."
-- Jeff Thanks J. for
the update! Much appreciated.
January 15, 1998
Right now an instrumental version of Plastiqa
is in the trailer of Zero Effect (due out in February).
Just a quick update to let you know what
Luke, Grant, and Jeff are up to. The guys have been working hard
on the new songs for what will soon be their new CD.
So keep an eye out for some upcoming
shows(at least in Los Angeles). An upcoming show is at the Viper
Room in LA on Wednesday, January 28th. It's gonna rock!
Silver Jet's single Getting Through
To You is track 5. I had a chance to listen to it and all
I have to say is...
"Wow!" This song's bluesy
strut combined with Luke's use of vocals is a MUST OWN!
I've listened to it endlessly already.
It costs only $10. Make checks payable to Smart
Recordings and send it to:
Smart Recordings
PO Box 480120
Los Angeles, CA 90048
There's only a limited number of this rare
album available so hurry! It's definitely worth the $10 just for
that single alone (The other songs on there are cool, too.)
On another subject, I heard that Plastiqa
is heavily featured in the trailer of a movie called "Zero
Effect."
And finally, if anyone has any of the
Silver Jet music videos, please Email me.
