The senet is, possibly, the game of more popular society of the old Egypt; Nefertari appears in a painting of its tomb (QV 66) playing to the senet, Tutankhamón had four senet

(in the image one of them) in their tomb (KW 62) to play during the eternity, Sennedjem appears, next to its wife Inyferti, playing to the senet in its tomb (TT 1); this game was considered a reference to the spell 17 of the Book of the Deads, since it represents the Trial of Osiris, the deceased's victory and its entrance in the Duat.
Although they have not been writings with the rules of the game, different versions of the same ones exist. One of these versions is the one used in the game Senet for PC that you can discharge from W3 o'clock to the one that drives the link of the p. of connections. In this p. I present the Swiss archaeologist's G. Jequier rules, confirmed -later of exhaustive studies - for the German egiptólogo Edgar B. Pusch.

RULES OF GAME

    Materiales.
Four hemispheric small canes (or four currencies); ten peons (5 targets and 5 black); board with three lines of ten stalls each one.

to Locate the peons on the stalls 1 at 10 (in position target, black, white,...). The objective of the game consists on displacing the peons along the lines, to locate them in the 3ª line exit -call" - until the stall 30, of where he/she retires them of the board. To displace the peons the four hemispheric small canes they rush (or the currencies).
It is counted in the following way:
A plane side (face) = 1
Two plane sides (faces) = 2
Three planes (faces) = 3
Four planes (faces) = 4
Four circles (four cross) = 6

The players throw the small canes (or currencies) for shift, until one of the two sack a plane side. The gotten point indicates that it will play with the black peons, and it advances from the stall 10 to 11 o'clock.

after the 1ª edition, the same player conserves the shift; if he throws 1, 4 or 6, the peon that chooses the nº of corresponding stalls advances; later he throws again. If it takes out 2 or 3, the peon that chooses, advances but it loses the shift that passes the opponent. The peons can jump above the other ones, whichever it is their color.

The second player plays his first edition with the peon of the stall 9; later any peon can move according to the obtained edition. He/she spends the shift when it is taken out 2 or 3.

If a peon falls on a stall occupied by an opposing peon, this last it is attacked and he should go back to the stall that the attacker has left vacancy.

Two peons of the same color cannot occupy oneself stall, but occupying contiguous stalls is protected mutually against the attack of an opponent. Three peons occupying contiguous stalls forms a wall, and the opposing peons cannot attack them neither to happen for above; the wall neither it impedes the step to the peons of the same color.

Each edition that doesn't allow to advance should be used to go back in inverse sense. A peon cannot go back to another stall occupied by another peon, whichever it is his color. In the event of impossibility of playing, he/she gets lost the shift.

If a peon falls in the stall 27 (marked with a X) it should return to the stall 1, or at 1ª o'clock empty, and to begin again.

The stalls 26, 28, 29 and 30 (OR, III. II, I) they are refuges where the peons cannot be attacked.

When a player has advanced his peons on the last line, it can begin to retire them of the board as they arrive, exactly, to the stall 30. If some peon is attacked and correspondent to the 1ª or 2ª lines, the peons of the same color should expect the return from the piece to the exit line to continue leaving.

The player that takes out all his peons the first one, has won. If it is played to several departures, it can be punctuated this way: 5 points for won departure; 1 point for each contrary peon in the 3ª line; 2 points for contrary peon in the 2ª line; 3 points for contrary peon in the 1ª line.

Plays and you will understand why this game was so popular during almost 4.000 years. The electronic version (with other rules) you have it in the link of the p. of connections; to get the after-dinner version, as well as the game of the Snake (the " Chinese " are a current variant of this game found in a tomb of Saqara), and multitude of old and modern games, I recommend you the establishment located in the street Jorge Juan nº 42 from Madrid; for sure you are amazed... You can also manufacture yourself your same one the board, it is very easy.

In all the W3 is trying not to use graphics with ©; if some has it, and the owner of the same one feels wounded in his interests that it communicates it to me and the graph will be retired of W3 o'clock quickly.
