Motherboard #: Hillary 570 |
Model Name: 905D |
When Purchaced: January 1996 |
Original RAM: 8 MB |
Original CPU Speed: Pentium 75Mhz |
Original Video memory: 1MB |
Comments:
Well it didn't take long for my system to start feeling it's age, so
when the RAM prices start to drop I invested in another 8MB. At the same
time I also bought another 1MB of video RAM. This lasted me for a little
while, but then the RAM prices dropped even further, so I got rid of all
the modules and upgraded to 32MB. Next step was the addition of a P166MMX
Overdrive processor, Voodoo graphics card and a SB16 soundcard. A couple
of months later I upgraded to a 4.3 GB Hard Drive to run all those new
games I could now play. This system lasted me nearly a year without having
to upgrade, but I've recently added another 32MB RAM and a Riva TNT card.
For the TNT card I had to get a BIOS upgrade from Unicore. Unfortunately
this was where my first real problem arose. I had to set the Hard Drive
to use Mode 3 instead of the default Mode 4, otherwise the hard drive would
get corrupted. It took me about 3 formats and reinstalls to get that sorted.
At the moment I have a P166MMX with 64MB RAM, 4.3GB HD and a 16MB TNT card.
My next step is a Powerleap adaptor and a K6-3 400, which should last me
for a little while yet.

Motherboard #: PB650 |
Model Name: Legend 132CDT Supreme |
When Purchaced: December, 1995 |
Original RAM: 8MB |
Original CPU Speed: 100MHz |
Original Video memory: 1MB |
Comments:
Nothing on my system is original anymore except the motherboard and
monitor. I have an Evergreen Technologies IDT Winchip C6 200MHz MMX CPU
upgrade installed (EXCELLENT upgrade). 72MB EDO RAM, 24X CD-ROM, Diamond
Multimedia Monster Fusion 16MB PCI video card, Diamond Monster 3D II 8MB
PCI 3D accelerator, 3Com 56K ISA Winmodem, Diamond Monster Sound MX300
PCI sound card. Needless to say that this system is a WHOLE LOT FASTER
than it was when I bought it. (Also if you can't tell, I really like Diamond
Mul imedia products) I also run Windows 98. I also have the AMI 1.00.07BYOR
BIOS update. The only bottleneck in my system is a lack of L2 cache memory.

Model Name: Legend 106CDT Supreme |
When Purchaced: May, 1998 |
Original CPU Speed: Pentium 75mhz |
Original Video memory: 1meg |
Comments:
The system came to me with the original Pentium 75mhz cpu, 8meg of
fastpage ram, 8meg of edo ram, a 1.2gig Seagate hd, a 540mb WD hd, a defunct
tape drive, 4xcd-rom, 28.8 Zoom modem, and a Soundblaster AWE 32 card.
I have replaced the original cpu with a Pentium Overdrive 120mhz, and overclocked
it to 150mhz. Pulled out the 8meg of fastpage ram, and put in 64meg of
EDO ram, for a total of 72meg ram. Replaced the defunct tape with a third
hd: a 1.2gig Connor. I sla ed it to the cd-rom. Put in a 56k pci modem.
And added 2meg of memory to the Soundblaster card. 30pin ram is hard to
find these days. So far, so good. There is still the power fans to replace,
and a video card with my name on it somewhere, but I may just wait until
I build my next computer.

When Purchaced: 1994 |
Original RAM: 8MB |
Original CPU Speed: 75Mhz |
Original Video memory: 1MB |
Comments:
Since I have upgraded the memory to 40MB, Upgraded the Bios to MrBios
to run a Evergreen Spectra/AMD-K6/2 333Mhz MMX/3D processor. Installed
a 56K modem, and 1MB of memory for a total of 2MB. Currently running Windows
98 very smoothly. Added a 2x8 CD-RW & a 40x CD-ROM. Replaced the .8
GB Hard drive with a 10.1 GB drive. System now kicks ass.

Comments:
Can the CPU speed on motherboard (PB 650) be increased. I'm pleased
with my Packard Bell, and have done other upgrades but it seems like my
PC is the only one not CPU upgradable. Any one have a comment.

Changes in order performed: 1. yank soundcard/modem, install Sound
Blaster Awe32 and USR 33.6 voice/fax modem(now 56k). 2. Format hard drive
and reload with Win95(now win98) full version to rid system of PAC BELL
junk. 3. download/install updated BIOS. 4. upgrade ram to 40 meg 5. upgrade
video mem to 2 meg. 6. overclock cpu to 100 mhz(cpu cooler fan)using jumpers
and vre voltage. Dhrystone 133281, Whetstone 65538! 7. installed Western
Dig 6.4 gig HD and Dig Research 40x CD rom drive along with the oe 1.2G
HD and 4x cd rom drive. WOW what a speed difference!! 8. tweaked reg settings
for dun to better suit internet use, doubled my download speed. Next upgrade
will be the biggie. A new motherboard with jumperless settings and a Celeron
300A that will overclock to 450mhz and run within 5% of a PII 450! A friend
has already tested this and it is true. I will also need a new case, bigger
power supp y. Then I suppose I will no longer be a Pac Bell owner(darn)!
