Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Seņoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. exists to create a bridge between all women committed to seeking the advancement of Latino(as). The organization was founded at the State University of New York at Binghamton on December 1, 1987 by Cynthia Santiago, Adriana Zamora, Carmen Garcia, and Carol Torres. These women pledged the then co-ed chapter of Lambda Upsilon Lambda/La Unidad Latina Fraternity, Inc. with sincere goals of establishing an organization that would serve the needs of Latinas nationwide. Through their efforts, they have created an organization that provides sisterhood and support, while also promoting academic achievement, service to the community and cultural enrichment. Their vision has created a voice for women in an academic setting.

The essence of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Seņoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. is epitomized by the diverse cultural backgrounds and customs that allow our Hermanas to share each other's heritage.
