Pennsylvania Railroad's
K4S streamlined Pacific of 1936

The K4S Pacific No. 3768 was styled by Mr Raymond Loewy in conjuction with chief engineer Fred Hankins. Wow! He also designed the T-1 and S-1 steam locos and the butt-welded GG-1 electric loco of 1935.

Loewy's involvement with the Pennsylvania Railroad began in 1932 when he designed a silent trash can for New York's Penn Station. The K4S led directly to the S-1 duplex 6-4-4-6 streamliner No. 6100.

Here is the same picture coloured up for a cigarette card – a set from Gallaher called 'Trains of the world'.
