WET 38: Bionic Musical SpinnerI spent about 60 hours in the past 5 days (Wednesday through Sunday)preparing and demonstrating fiber arts at our county fair. I used a drop spindle to spin Kool-Aid dyed merino wool into yarn for almost 30 hours of that time! (No, I don't usually use Kool Aid! But I wanted to show how people can get involved in dyeing and spinning for very little cost. And Kool Aid is both permanent and theoretically non-toxic! Add to that some free wool from a sheep farmer, a dowel and a macrame bead to make a drop spindle, and you can get in on the art/craft for under $5. LOL) Anyway, with all the music stuff we've done lately, and now the spinning and weaving I've been doing, combined with watching a very quick and prolific spider produce a glorious web across our entry--this image was rather inevitable. :) I used 3 of the 4 WET 38 images to create this sort of abstract picture; although the background is "from scratch." The background was done with spray paint and lots of blurring for the sky, the angle brushes at different sizes for the "grass," and spray painted fog and mist for the "trees." The web was done with the circle shape tool and lots of line segments, all at 1 pixel antialiased. Then I chiseled it (at 2, I think) to get an almost beaded effect (which proceeded to disappear when I compressed for jpg.!). The spider is made from 3 buckets, deformed and motion blurred together for the body; guitars copied, pasted, and gaussian blurred for the legs; and the lamp posts for spinnerets (I got a bit carried away there!). I actually made wings out of the monument, but then decided I didn't really want to put a struggling moth in the spider's web...too violent for this pastoral scene. LOL.

This image was created using Paint Shop Pro 5, especially for the WET #38 project.
It is my original creation based on the original WET image obtained from Jeanne on-line
through alt.binaries.comp-graphics.
Thank you!
