Block Made by Shirley Albright

I thought it might be interesting for Mike and Beth to know that the pattern for this block came from David Small's web site for one of the block of the month for foundation piecing. David referred to this block on the crazy quilt list and told us how to access it. He also provided instructions on how to do foundation paper piecing.

I took the 3" foundation pattern and enlarged it on a photo copier to get the 6 inch block for this wall hanging. I pieced it on the paper foundation, then stitched the 7 inch piece of muslin to it on three sides, before tearing the paper pattern away. Then stitched the fourth side. The embroidery was done after this - securing the seams to the muslin. The embroidery and beading was done by hand with the exception on Beth & Mike's names and the date. I used hand dyed varigated silk ribbon, marlitt embroidery threads for its lovely sheen, as well as DMC embroidery floss, and Mill House beads. The fabrics and colors are among my favorites - velvet, moire, and brocades.

I hope my small contribution to the wall hanging for Mike and Beth will help to express my appreciation for the time and effort they have put forth to bring so much pleasure and sharing of knowledge. as well as the friendships which have developed because of the Crazy Quilt list.

Thank you, Beth and Mike, and to you too, Dawn, for your inspiration and hard work.
