Here's some stuff from the Kan-Ken Studio
WALL SPACE is where we will look at art and things that might be art. This time around we're taking a look at some mixed media bas-relief sculptures by me, Hal Weaver. I started the Kan-Ken Studio in the fall of 1990 and have produced and sold over 500 pieces of work. What is Kan-Ken mean? It's a bushido term that refers to the way of seeing. Ken means to see the surface and Kan means to see the meaning within. The kind of artwork that influences me first gets my attention visually, then as I start to look at it more, will reveal layers of inner meaning.
The six pieces featured here were all produced in the last year. I used Hydrocal plaster building directly up over a burlap and wood armature. While the plaster was still wet, I created the basic forms and made further modifications with carving knives and power tools after it had dried. All the pieces were painted with acrylic paints.
All questions and inquires are welcomed.
