When other planets or alternate timelines just aren’t enough, science fiction enjoys the
concept of other dimensions, from Dimension X to a region called “subspace.” Unknown
or unexplored places within the places we do know. The Marvel Universe created a place
called the Astral Plane, a sort of cyberspace for the mind, where only people with a special
browser (telepathy, psychic powers) have access. It’s here that the most powerful telepath on the planet, Xavier, too on the being of pure evil known as the Shadow King, who represented “everything [Xavier] formed the X-Men to fight against.” This would not have been easy for him. Half his X-Men had been turned into bad guys, and his only son served as the human host for the King. Good prevailed. But the “pyrhic victory” cost him the use of his legs and, for the time being, the life of his own son. |
