Considered
by many, myself included, to be one of the greatest works of
the comics art, Neil Gaiman's The Sandman enjoyed a successful
run of 75 or so issues (plus several gallery books and spin-offs)
that went a long way towards proving that the comics medium
wasn't just for preadolescent superhero fantasies.
Gaiman's
stories were a mixture of compelling characters, tight storytelling,
and a marvelous reworking of classic and modern themes and characters.
What
can I say? It's one of the few things that I consistently like.
