I have had panic/anxiety for approx. 71/2 yrs. now. It gets better then I find myself going several steps back (sometimes I think I'm holding myself back, afraid of change). I do know that it get's tiresome having to depend on others to do things for me that I used to do without thinking about it. Sometimes I just wish I weren't here, that life would be easier for others If I weren't here. I am taking new medication (Neurontin) it's supposed to help w/ anxiety & depression, I haven't noticed much change yet I guess I'll keep plugging on until something happens. I am glad I found this website at least I know I'm not alone & there are others who can relate w/ me. |

Twenty years of it and I still do not have it licked. For the past five or so years, Zoloft (a medication) has been the conquerer for me. As long as I can tolerate the side effects, panic attacks are kept under control, and actually go into dormancy, allowing me to lead a somewhat normal life. I do not enjoy taking medication, but as an anxiety prone individual, I must keep in mind that I cannot always 'think' it away, or keep driving myself into emergency wards in a frenzied state thinking I'm having a heart attack. The conclusion I have come to is that anxiety is genetic, and have learned to accept it. Months can go by, and it can be forgotten, and then, wham, one after another, until ten thousand calories have been blown! So, back to the medication, weeks go by, normality sets in, stop the medication, months go by...and the cycle begins again. Year after year. |

We were in Philadelphia and it was hot and crowded where I was standing, and I just started crying and breathing quickly. A teacher took me for a drink of water (like that would help!) and I calmed down but since then, when I am in crowds (especially if it's very warm out or I'm close enough to touch people) I find myself crying and feeling like I'd rather die than be where ever I am. I am not agoraphobic but have suffered some depression since I was in elementary school, though I believe it's not really an effect of the panic attacks. I am currently writing a novel about an adolescent boy with panic disorder and depression, and in my researching, I found this page. What a wonderful place for people to find sanctuary. It's nice to see a page devoted to panic disorder that isn't cold and clinical. Keep up the good work, and God bless. |

Had only briefly touched your page when I signed the guest book before. I access at work on my lunch hour. Am now further into your page. I love it. I did share several of your poems with my group. They especially loved "You Can Do It" We all shed some tears and had some laughs. We've all been there, done that, and really think the hospital ER's should pay us for our business. Fortunatley I'm in pretty good shape and have been for the past two years. My panic is pretty much under control. I don't ever forget that I could get nailed any time with a big one but I've chosen not to live my life in anticipation. Our group is a learning group. We each gather as much information as possible re new medications, copeing tools, etc. and discuss these at each meeting. We do have some old fashion bitch sessions also if one of us is feeling stressed. But all in all we're a pretty "UP" group.
