Crazy Quilt Wreath

This was my first project. I made it following directions by Judith Montano. Many of the fabrics and trims are family momentos. As I was making the wreath, I kept a project journal. In it I described making the wreath and where the family momentos came from as well as stories about the individual people to whom the momentos once belonged.

I made this vest after seeing one designed by Robbie Spivey in the book Make Your Own Great Vests by Carol Parks. My vest is not very much like hers, but that is where I got the idea to use all black for the fabrics and autumn colors for the embroidery. I like wearing this
vest because it matches almost everything in my wardrobe.

Crazy Quilt Flat Basket Wall Hanging

This piece was made using a painted handkerchief of my great aunt's and some laces that were hers also.

This was the first piece I actually completed.
It is about 8" across and completely hand sewn. There are 32 pieces in the front. I have it hanging from a grapevine wreath in my living room.

Crazy Quilt Heart Ornament

Small Crazy Quilt Heart Ornament

A four inch heart ornament made in jewel tones. It's hard to tell, but the blob to the right of the butterfly patch is a button with a neat 3-D effect. It has two strands of seed beads hanging from it. I put the button on to cover up the mess I made where the seams joined, and it turned out to be my favorite part of the whole thing.Click for a larger than life view of the heart.

More projects - a tea cozy and an eyeglass case. I made these for my mom.
