Buy this, it's shit! InSync: Review of Spice
by Ryan Kahl
Rating: 4 stars (out of 4)
Album: Spice
Label: Virgin Records [aka Satan]
Music: New age pop [erm. When I hear that, I think of that Pure Moods cd or something, not Spice Girls. Does he know what new age means?]
First reaction: The first time I heard Spice Girls was when I was visiting my brother at JMU. When I heard "Wannabe", I thought: "This is pretty sweet. It has a nice rhythm and there are five girls singing. What more could you want?" [talent, for one]
I can't help but think about: If Spice Girls reached No. 1 on the charts with "Wannabe" in 17 European countries back in 1996, they will more than likely hit No. 1 in America pretty quickly, too. [yeah. We all know that everything that goes number one in Europe goes number one in America. Just ask Boyzone]
Would you buy it new or used? Definitely new, because these five lovely and talented girls can SING! All the songs on the CD are fabulous!
Best Lyric: "If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends. Make it last forever, friendship never ends. If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give. Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is." [*sigh* I was going to say something mean, but this guy has gotta be summit like 12 years old...]
Best song: "Wannabe" caught my ear when I heard it the first time [I'm getting the vibe that "Wannabe" is the only Spice Girls song he has heard]. I have loved the song ever since. The songs "2 Become 1" and "Say You'll Be There" are not far behind.
What is the general theme? Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Victoria Aadams, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton (Spice Girls) [yeah, thanks for pointing that out. If you hadn't said they were Spice Girls, I might've thought you had suddenly lapsed into a review of something else!] have one vision in sight [money?] -- Girl Power. Another theme is getting what you want out of life.
When would you listen to it? It would most likely fit the mood if you want to dance or even do an aerobics workout. [and god knows aerobics and dancing are completely, entirely, not-at-all-similar things]
Critic's notes: Spice Girls' CD Spice was released inthe UK and Europe in July 1996. It was just released here in early February. A unique quality of Spice Girls, who range in age from 18 to 21 [yeah, ten years ago], is that they write their own lyrics. [okay, I will leave the reply to this to imagination]
