I remember the first time I actually saw a Marvel comic. I mean it just leaped out of the comicbook stand. It was an issue of Spider-Man and had a picture by Charles vess on it.
What caught my attention was the look of Spidey. It wasn't that old red-and-blue costume that used to adorn my younger brother's t-shirts, oh no, this costume was black.
How shocked I was. And thrilled. I'll never forget the look on my mother's face when I decidedly put it on the counter with the rest of the stuff we'd bought, just in time for the cashier girl to automatically register it in the machine and for my mother not to have time to oppose the buy.

I was so proud of myself. Giddy too. At the age of 15 I had finally "succumbed" to super-hero comics.
