Open Water Diver
Experienced divers
will tell you there is nothing better than diving. To submerge and see new
creatures for the first time, to identify marine animals few have seen before,
to experience weightlessness and share experiences with friends. Diving adds
purpose to your travel and can bring new wonders and adventure to a holiday.
It
can involve the whole family, a group of friends or the members of a club and
perhaps for some will become more than just a pastime...
Why PADI Open Water?
As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, the most widely
respected rating in the world, you have the freedom to dive with a buddy
independent of a professional. If you already tried a
PADI Discover Scuba
Diving experience or are PADI Scuba Diver certified, check with your instructor
to see how credit from these courses may apply to the open water program.
What do I need to start?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the
water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. If you are between
10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water
Diver program available.

What will I do?
Throughout the course, you'll learn the fundamentals of scuba diving, including
dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five
pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water
(ocean or lake) dives. The academic sections are mostly home based,
whereby you have the opportunity to take your "Crew Pack" home and return to the
dive centre only to cover the knowledge review sections, thereby making it
easier to fit into a very busy work and social life.
We also offer a referral option whereby you can take the academic
and confined water modules with us and complete the four Open Water qualifying
dives on holiday with one of the many PADI Dive Centres throughout the world.
This means precious holiday time is not taken up with academic and confined
water lessons, and that you complete the four Open Water dives at your holiday
destination. (You may be required to take a refresher pool session on holiday if
some time has elapsed since your initial training).
How long will it take?
PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you
demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a
pace that is comfortable to you. Usually the confined and academic
portions of the course are completed in a five week period, but this can
be extended to allow for unforeseen circumstances.
The Open Water qualifying dives are then taken at
a conveniently located dive site over the course of two days. Students
must be aware that they are responsible for arranging their own transport to and
from the dive location, and in some cases their own accommodation. Often,
car-pooling is available amongst students. When diving on the coast, boat
fees are also extra.
What will I need?
The following are all
provided as part of your course:-
 |
PADI Open Water Crew-Pak
|
 |
PADI Open Water Video
|
 |
Log Book
|
How much does it cost?
The price of the Open Water course
training
for Semi Dry Suit or Dry Suit includes all academic and pool sessions and
four open water qualifying dives, all course materials, certificate, emblem and
equipment. The course fee does not include travel, boat fees, or overnight
accommodation at the dive sites. The referral option includes all academic and
pool sessions, course materials and equipment.
Course fees start from £200
Where can I go from here?
We recommend you gain diving experience by participating in "Continuing
Education". The next level of training (in this case is the
Advanced Open
Water Course) which can be taken immediately after completion of the Open
Water Course and allows you to expand you knowledge and experience in different
areas of diving.
Stop by the dive centre for more information on
this and other courses available today.
