Recompression Chamber Awareness

It seems amusing that we have a specialty that involves getting inside a recompression chamber and being compressed and then decompressed. Divers tend to try and avoid such occurrences.

The purpose of this fantastic specialty is to make you aware of how a hyperbaric chamber functions, and the procedures that are followed.

We run this specialty in conjunction with the DDRC ( Diving Diseases and Research Centre ) down in Plymouth. Once you have enrolled on the course, you will participate in a half day classroom session where you will learn about the different types of chambers and their uses ( other than diving related uses ). You will also be given a brief run through on how to recognise the symptoms of diving related injuries.

You will then spend a minimum of half a day at the DDRC centre. Once there you will be shown the facilities and shown how the chambers work.

Finally, you will participate in a chamber dive down to a maximum depth of 40 metres. You can take your dive computer in with you which will be placed in water so you can view your profiles afterwards and even log it as a dive.

To participate in this course, you need to be a minimum of 15 years old and certified as at least a PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent organization.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot run this course without 8 people due to the cost of hiring the DDRC facilities.

Where can I go from here?
You can apply this Specialty course towards your Master Scuba Diver rating.

Stop by the dive centre for more information on this and other courses available today.
