[#5] Summary of news article

A new U.S. Department of Agriculture report states that while almost any diet can result in short-term weight loss, only a few can help maintain long-term health. Contrary to the recent boom of unorthodox diets, the report showed that traditional diets of eating nutritionally balanced meals and exercising regularly give the most health benefits.

[#6] Netiquette

There is a certain etiquette to follow in cyberspace, just as there is in real life. Here are some rules of "network etiquette":
1.Think before you write! Misunderstandings occur more frequently and are harder to solve when you can't see the other person face to face. Unless you're extra careful, you might end up offending someone unintentionally (flaming).o
2.Treat others as you would like to be treated: The Golden Rule is universal. Respect others and show courtesy. You may be looking at a screen, but never forget that you are interacting with human beings.
3.Do not take another's intellectual property without permission. Even worse, don't try to take credit for someone else's work! We tend to take information on the web for granted, but don't forget to acknowledge the effort that was put into creating it.
4.The most basic and important rule is: Don't do something online that you wouldn't do in real life. You wouldn't pick fights with friends, spread false rumors, or snoop around a neighbor's mail. You shouldn't act differently just because you are anonymous online.

[#7] Worksheet Discussion

Alex and I critiqued each other's website and discussed what we needed to do in order to improve our sites. Her website format is similar to mine in that she included a section that has background information about astrology before communicating her main purpose of informing people about their zodiac profiles. I have a section that explains the importance of eating healthy (as opposed to eating junk food, starving, etc.) before giving guidelines on how to eat right. Alex mentioned that she liked the images on my homepage, and that I should have more pictures like that throughout my site. I am currently in the process of collecting pictures that illustrate healthy eating. I have three sections related to my theme, but I do not have much content in them so far except for one. Developing more content is my priority. Next, we decided that I should change my font. I will have to look for one. Also, she thought it would be better if I had a background that is related to my theme. I like how the blinking star background goes with Alex's site, but I don't think anything would be appropriate for mine. Instead, I will change the background color. Our discussion gave me a chance to look at my site from a more objective point of view. Her suggestions were very helpful, and I will make the changes to my site as soon as I can.
