New Coaching Certification

NCCP certification is no longer a requirement of Basketball Alberta for a coach to take a team to Youth Provincials.  It has been replaced with CCCP (Community Coach Certification Program).

Coaches with NCCP certification are exempt from taking a CCCP clinic for the 2006/2007 season only.  There's nothing to stop an NCCP certified coach from taking a CCCP clinic however.  In some cases it might actually be very beneficial.

All other registered CMBA coaches and assistant coaches must take a CCCP clinic.  Clinics are age specific.

Coaches in 'A' and 'B1' divisions, who do not have NCCP certification, MUST take a CCCP clinic.

Cost is $55.00 (CMBA will reimburse 50% with receipt), the other 50% reimbursed by Southfour Basketball.

Game Day

  • You should arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled game time to be sure that all preliminary duties are met (so the game can start on time).
  • Come with a list of your players in numerical order for every game.
  • Pre-arrange before every game to have a scorekeeper or timekeeper ready to volunteer.
  • If you are the home team, fill in the score-sheet before arriving at the gym. (List all players and then at half-time of the game note which players are absent or injured). In the seeding round the upper or left hand team is home.

After the game there are some requirements that have to be performed before your duties are over for the week. The end of the game is not when you can turn your mind to personal matters.

  • Firstly as a courtesy to the next team have your players clean up the bench area. Pick up beverage containers, etc. Wipe up wet areas and then leave quickly so that the next team can begin their preparations. Hold your team meeting outside or in a corner away from the baskets.
  • Next, if you are the winning coach, you are required to phone the 24-hour voicemail box immediately and report the results of the game (691-5696). Note that the game number and points scored by the winning and losing teams have to be reported.
  • In addition to phoning the result to the voicemail box, the winning coach must also fax or mail the score sheet to the CMBA office within 48 hours. (Fax 235-4645)

*As you can see, we don't have a lot of gymtime.  So please make sure we do what we are asked to do when we use the gyms.  No food or drink except water, take off wet or snowy shoes or outdoor shoes that's not clean, at some places to take off any footwear other than gym shoes, no running around or practicing in the hallways (we only rent the gym not the climbing wall or mats or stage or whatever equipment, be courteous to the CARETAKERS (if they complain, we could lose our rental), don't leave doors that lead outside, open (for school security reasons, things get vandalized or stolen), and clean after practices (water bottles, anything left behind).
