The daughter of Maj. M & Joyce (Anderson) Mintz. Joyce was deau. of General Anderson of Fla., a cival war hero.
He married Sarah Merrill in Erath Co, Tx, September 17, 1873. Sarah was born in Texas ?? May
19, 1852. Sarah died June 8, 1947 in Erath Co, Tx, at 95 years of age. Her body was interred in West End Cem,
Stephenville, Tx. Sarah was the daughter of Henry Martin Merrill and Frances Pruitt of Atlanta, Ga. As a young lady
she witnessed Sherman's march and the burning of Atlanta. In 1872 Sarah, her mother and two brothers moved to present day Sommerville Co.
where she taught in a one-room school in Cleburne. Here she met and married Elias Chandler. In 1906 the family moved to Stephenville, Texas
where she died at the age of 95 having outlived Elias and all four of her children. He Served 3 years in the CSA with his 4
brothers. First in Co A, 24th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Virginia then transfered to Third Battalion Sharpshooters and
was commissioned 2nd Lt. by Gen Robert E. Lee on May 1, 1862. Prior to his discharge in 1864 he was promoted to 1st Lt. and later to Capt.
in the field.
On May 1st, 1866 he married Miss Mattie Mintz of Atlanta, Ga. On September 1, 1866 they left by wagon and arrived at present day Granbury
on the 27th of November 1866. After the death of Mattie he married Sarah Merrill and they are buried together at the West End Cemetery,
Stephenville, Tx. Elias's brother Joseph Newton and sister Harriett Chandler Landers also moved to Texas shortly after the Civil war.
