Here's our picks for the best 'Fest food. Your
mileage may vary.
At the north end of the grounds is the Rock Stage
and the Leinie Lodge and one of the best
Food areas in all the festival grounds, the Ethic Village, is
nearby. Toy's has the best egg rolls at the 'Fest, you
gotta have one. Gus' Mexican Cantina has jalapeno poppers,
always good food if you're planning on sucking down a couple of
beers. If you're the daring type, try the crawfish boil
at the Crawfish Trap.
Heading south to the Miller Oasis,
you'll find the number one food attraction at Summerfest: Mozzarella
Marinara at Saz's. If the line at the regular stand is
too long, there's a Saz's Express nearby which usually has
faster-moving lines. Mrs. Mathu is more of a sweettooth, and always finds
something worthwhile at Suzy's Cream Cheesecakes, such as a turtle.
Of course Robby's Corn is a Summerfest standard.
Over at the Harley Roadhouse,
we usually put down lots of Cajun Chicken Fritters from Crawdaddy's
and Fried Eggplant Strips from the Venice Club. And more of Robby's
Corn. The Athenian Combo Plate at Zorba's is good
if you're looking for a whole meal. If you're really hungry, go to Conejeto/Monreal's
and get a rotisserie chicken.
Down at the Briggs & Stratton Big
Backyard, my favorites are the hamburgers at Major Goolsby's
and Pitch's rib sandwich. And of course, more of Robby's
Corn.
If you're going to a show at the Marcus
Amphitheater, there's a whole food court nearby. You can get our
favorite 'Fest food -- potato mojos from Shakey's
there. A late-night Chicago style hot dog at Martino's
is a good call. And the cheesesteak submarine at Cousin's
is a can't-miss choice, too.
There's lots of food choices at the fest, but there's one
thing that is universal -- beer.
