MY LIFE - JANUARY

I read something in the paper at work (yes, we were slow), actually a couple things, that just made me shake my head and wonder just how the kids in high school are ever going to make it through the rest of their lives. The one article concerns a high school girl who was mad that she couldn't wear her favorite body lotion in one of her classes.

The reason being the teacher was allergic to certain fragrances (as I am) and the one she liked was one that caused him problems. So he banned all body lotions from his classroom, a rather extreme step if you ask me, but nothing unreasonable. Or so you would think. Seems that the girl decided that he was trampling her "civil right" to wear whatever body lotion she wanted.

*shrug* Are we that stupid now? Wearing a body lotion is a civil right? In a classroom? With a teacher allergic to it? How does she figure and who gave her the bright idea? I saw this story and just laughed because it's so insanely stupid to begin with. This girl cannot wear the body lotion if the teacher does not allow that. It's as simple as that. It's his classroom and as a student, you're expected to abide by the rules. I seriously doubt this girl will be traumatized because she cannot wear one of her lotions (which if you ask me, are a bit overdone in most cases).

I personally think that some girls go too far with these lotions. Yeah, it's great that you want to smell good, but sometimes girls really overdo it. Instead of smelling good, everyone else is nauseated and the whole idea is thrown out the window. And most girls smell good without the lotions.

Now the teacher may have gone too far by banning the lotions from his classroom. I don't know about that. On one hand, it would seem that he'd have that right if he's at risk of having problems. On the other hand, you really can't tell anyone kid in today's society that they can't do something because they start trumpeting their rights and so forth.

So this is a lose-lose situation for the teacher. He can have the lotions banned, but risk the wrath of students who aren't afraid of causing trouble or he can back down and let the girl wear her lotion. As for the girl, she's a bitch, plain and simple. If she had any decency, she would have realized what she was doing to his allergies and stopped wearing the lotion to at least his class. But she complained instead.

The other thing I read concerned the Reverend Jessie Jackson. I just wish this guy would go away and almost got my wish. The same guy who trumpets all these causes has a child from another woman while he's still married. First he said he was going to retreat from public life and get things back together. When I read that, I was ready to start singing.

But now, after all the support he's gotten from his supporters, he's decided to continue his public work. My question is, who in the hell would support him after what he did? Yeah, Bill Clinton had some extracurricular activity with Monica Lewinsky, but she didn't get pregnant. And sure, extramarital affairs take place all the time. But this guy has been trying to get black males to act responsibly for years (among other things), and he goes and out and contradicts what he's preaching.

I cannot see who would be supportive of this guy, unless they happen to live in Utah. But people are blind when it comes to things like that. They'd probably follow him if he were to walk off the edge of the cliff and say it was the way to salvation. I just don't get it. I really don't.

I just wish I didn't have to listen to him champion his causes all the time either, so maybe I'm being biased about the whole ordeal. Or maybe not. There's just so much you can take from the guy though. Everything that happens to a black person is because someone else is racist, at least in Jackson's book. He was the same guy who was crying over the firing of a couple of black NFL coaches last year, despite something like six other coaches getting fired too. One of the coaches he defended even said he was fired because he didn't get the job done.

So now we have to listen to him more. He's done a lot of good, I'll grant him that much. But I really wish he'd just stop talking for a while because it's sounding more and more like garbage everyday.

It was a slow night at work. We had maybe 10 customers in the last three hours tonight and there was absolutely nothing going on. I wasn't complaining though because it sure was better than it being a madhouse and not being able to figure out which way was up because you were spinning from everything you were doing. So I wasn't upset over it.

It gave me a chance to read the paper for the first time in weeks and allowed me to rest up a little bit. Not like I need it. I only have the next two days off (unless someone calls off). My next day off after Tuesday is up in the air though. I would imagine it wouldn't be until the middle of next week though since I'll probably get another Sunday unless something drastic happens.

We'll see though. You can never tell what's going to happen at work. I just hope that next week isn't that bad with Velvet being gone after this week ends.

I have a bad feeling about it though.
