MY LIFE - JULY

Dave

Wednesday, July 24, 2002

Today was one of those days where I'm really struggling to remember a thing that happened all day. Sure, I know it was truck day and I know I did a bunch of returns, but the actual process has faded from my mind.

It could be because I got to bed so late, but last night was a pretty good night for me and that's where I'm leaving it. There's no need for me to talk about what I may have been doing all night (and if anyone's mind is in the gutter, I'm talking about that kind of thing).

But hey, they finally started tearing down the attic today. It only took more than a month, but the permit finally came through authorizing the rebuilding of the attic. I was very happy to see the roof being torn down. This is mostly because that's what's been holding things up. Until the attic is worked on, the rest of the house was on hold.

We've been at this hotel suite for two months tomorrow (July 25). The fire took place on May 25th, so it's been a long two months and it may be at least another month before we get back in.

Not only am I anxious to get things back to normal, but I'm anxious to see how the house turns out. We have grand ideas for what we want done and the intention is there to fulfill those intentions. I pretty much know how my room is going to be set up and I know how I want to rebuild my computer.

Something else I want to mention, I know I haven't written any new columns in Come Again or in Commentary, although the reasons are different for both. With Come Again, it's been because I'm particularly proud of that column in there now and it's garnered some good reviews from the people that have seen in. As for Commentary, there hasn't been much to write about lately. I could write about a lot of things, but I'm not really inspired by anything I see right now.

That can be my problem though. There's plenty going on, like the high profile kidnappings, the wildfires, the complete fiasco involving baseball's labor situation, and so much more, but I haven't really had anything touch a nerve in me lately.

The whole come again thing has just been my reluctance to write over what I think has become my best column. I've never received the kind of response over something I wrote quite like what I've received with this one and that makes it hard for me to just write anything I feel like writing. I almost feel like I have to meet a new standard with what I write and it's partly because of how well received that column's been.

I will have to write another one eventually, but for now, I'm keeping it up at least through the rest of this week. I almost wrote something last weekend, but I had a last minute change of heart and kept the 9/11 column instead.

So enjoy it for another couple days.

I'm getting kind of pissy towards some people again, this time regarding a site that I've been using to try and meet people. I get clicked on to make a match, then that person never even bothers to at least give me the dignity of a reply. It's happened several times over the last couple weeks and I'm getting a tad sick of it right now. I feel like time is being wasted by these girls and it's not fair to me to get my hopes up, then never say a word to me.

That said, one girl did talk to me and we had a pretty good conversation. Maybe a little too good. I was way too late last night and I'm feeling it, but it was worth the time spent learning about her and telling her about me. It's kind of interesting, but we share the same views on a lot of things. This is something that could get very interesting, but we'll see.

What made it so nice to me was that she wasn't just giving me one word ansers to the ims I was sending. She'd answer with a paragraph of her own with how she felt about what I said and she gave me something to work with. I'd have to say it's the best conversation I've had with a girl since I first met Tab last year.

Now I'm not sitting here thinking that this girl is the one for me. Would I complain if we got together? Not one bit. Would I be upset if it doesn't go past being friends? No, but you never know what life's going to bring you next and I'm just letting things unfold and seeing how they come out.

All in all, outside of me being dead tired and unable to think very well right now, things are going pretty good.

Some other bits and pieces of useless info...I'm supposed to be going to Cedar Point on Monday. I haven't been there in over ten years now and I'm getting pretty excited about going on all those roller coasters that I have yet to experience for myself. My mom and sister have been on most of them, Teresa went on the Millenium Force, but my mom didn't.

Jim is no longer going to be a pharmacist at my store come next week. He was pretty much given no choice in whether or not he wanted to transfer and we might be getting a guy who's really strict. If that's the case, things could get really explosive before fall hits. I know there's more than one person who will not take to change too well and I'm curious to see how this unfolds.

TRIBE WATCH

Note: this is something I'm going to try and do regardless of how the season turns out.

Game Number 100
New York Yankees, 14
INDIANS, 7

Game Summary
The Yankees jumped all over Ryan Drese (8-8, 7.03 ERA) for 8 runs on seven hits, ultimately taking a 10-0 lead going into the bottom of the second. In the bottom half, the Indians scored 6 unearned runs, taking advantage of 3 Yankee errors in the inning to creep within 10-6, but they'd only get one more run on an Ellis Burks home run while the Yankees continued to pile it on. David Wells won his 11th game, 3 of those against the Indians, despite the rocky outing. For Drese, it was the second time in two starts against the Yankees that he gave up 8 runs.

Notes
The Indians went 3-6 against the Yankees this year, one win less than last year...The Twins beat the White Sox 8-1, further cementing their hold on the Central Division lead...After Danys Baez held the Yankees scoreless through eight innings last night, the Yankees put up 13 runs in the next three innings against the Tribe...The Indians offense has been the second best in the American League in the second half, but their pitching is the worst now. The roles have been reversed....Next up for the Indians is a three game series with Detroit starting Friday night.
