I don't know why, nor do I care to know, but today was a slow day. It was a little busy at the start, but once Lindsay showed up at 10am, it pretty much died out. Most of the morning was spent filling the occasional script, answering the occasional dumb question, and just getting prepped for what was supposed to be the late morning rush that never showed.
So, I spent much of the morning glancing at the paper, waiting for 1pm so that we could turn the Browns game on. It would have been the first time this season that I was able to at least listen to the game and with Steve working, it was going to happen.
However, things aren't all rosey. For starters, Nate and Steve are still talking about leaving the store because of how things are going with Keith. He refuses to hire anyone in an attempt to earn brownie points on the payroll budget, thus creating situations like Thursday and Friday where there were only two techs, a ton of customers, and a whole lot of stress for everyone involved.
It's becoming increasingly clear that a lot of people are unhappy with him and what he's doing and it's only a matter of time before it all blows up in his face. I don't even think he realizes how much dissension there is in the store. Everyone thinks he's a decent guy, but no one likes how he's managing the pharmacy. There have been a couple of spats involving him already and there's only going to be more in the future.
It's getting very uncomfortable to be in the store at the same time as him and Regina as well. There's no doubt that there's little love lost between them. Regina has already laid into him once and I'm sure there's going to be more fireworks this week. Regina's brother worked in our store up until he overheard Keith badmouthing Regina, confronted Keith on the matter, and got himself fired. So I'm sure Regina will have something to say, although she may be dealing with this behind the scenes as well.
Now I'm smart enough to know that you don't sit and talk openly about someone at work, especially when someone might be there that might say something to who you're talking about. It's bad enough to be talking about someone behind their back, but it's really stupid to do it when someone close to them is working. It was kind of like that with Shelby and me. I don't think anyone realized how good of friends we had become, so they didn't think that I'd say anything to her about what was going on, but it was bothering me to listen to people talk about her the way they were. I'm not above talking about someone, but I won't go so far as to bash them or completely rip them. It's wrong and it only gets you in trouble.
So the situation at work has been kind of tense and it's only going to get worse before it gets better. Keith probably needs to be moved and soon or else things will really get bad. I know I'm weighing my options at this point, but I don't anticipate moving.
The other thing that comes into consideration is the possibility of us going to 24 hours. I've been told that at the beginning of the year, our hours will be changing from 8-12 to being open 24 hours. This creates a whole new assortment of problems, problems that I don't really know how we'll manage. It's going to be interesting, even more so if there's a big turn-over of employees.
Last winter was bad. I don't think anyone wants a repeat.
I was driving home from work, trying not to listen to the Browns game and with good reason. When I left, they were down 28-14 with 5 minutes left. Next time I turned on the game, there was a review going on involving Dennis Northcutt and I quickly realized that it was on an onsides kick. I turned it off again because it was getting to be too much, but I had to turn it back on.
Next time I turn it on, the Browns are marching down the field, moving the ball, and getting closer and closer. Then, I listen as Tim Couch completes a great touchdown pass to Northcutt, who evaded the cornerback with a nice spin move. So it's tied and the game goes into overtime, which has been bad news for the Browns in the past. This time, they got the ball, moved the ball, and Phil Dawson kicked a field goal to win the game. It was a good game.
It was a clean sweep too because the Indians won as well, so it was a good day to be a Cleveland sports fan.
Otherwise, the day after work, I've sat on my butt online and talked with people. I really haven't felt any kind of desire to do anything and besides, I'm talking to a couple of new people that should prove to be interesting, if nothing else. I'm still hoping that something works out between Corrine and me though. She's a fun girl and there's rarely a dull moment when I'm with her.
Today was just one of those days though where I didn't really want to do anything though. Part of it was recovering from how crazy it was last week. Working four days in a row plus school took more out of me than I thought and it's something to avoid in the future. I actually intend to talk to Nate about that tomorrow.
As for school, I have one class tomorrow, English, and I get to work on yet another one of those fun poetry analysis papers that have so kicked my ass to this point. Now, I'm starting to get some of these poems a little, but it still makes for a challenge to try and write three pages on the matter.
My research paper should be a different story. I chose to do a history of hip-hop, including the culture, the music, its changes over the last 25 years, its influences on society, and how it's become such a huge property since the mid-90's. I chose hip-hop because it's something I've been interested in for years and something that a lot of people misunderstand. Most people think hip-hop and think gangsta rap. Well, that's only a small portion of hip-hop and that's one of the misconceptions I want to clear up, that hip-hop is nothing but violence and expensive items.
Hopefully, research proves me right.
I guess my sister is having problems with where she's staying, but I don't really know if it involves her boyfriend or the people that are living there, but it's exactly the opposite of how I handled my break up compared to her. With her, she broke up with Dan and within a week, she was dating this other guy, Jay. Now me, I couldn't get into another relationship a month after I broke up with Tab, much less a week.
Not long after they got together, she moved in with him. Now, I learned the first time that you probably should avoid that because of how many problems you can have, but this is now the second time she's living with her boyfriend. I couldn't do it again until I've really been with a girl a long time. I know how things can go and how much trouble it can be. I don't want anything to do with that kind of thing now. You need your space every now and then and living together doesn't provide many opportunities.
So there's now talk of her moving back in here, although I don't know how concrete that is. I do know that if she wants to avoid the same problems she had with Dan, it's probably a smart move to come back. It's her choice though. She might decide to stay there and try and deal with it, but from what I understand, something happened to her keyboard (not talking about computer either). Now, I have the same kind of keyboard, a Yamaha portable keyboard that costs a lot of money, so if something happened to it, my mom's not going to be happy.
Really, I don't know what's going to happen. If she does come back, she'll have to take the couch bed and deal with Shade because I'm not about to lose my spot that I've taken. I have much more stuff than her and I have not slept well on that fold up couch in the past and I need all the help I can get with sleeping since it rarely has gone well.
Whatever happens, well, it happens. Hopefully things work out.
The house is slowly coming along, although my mom made it clear to the workers that she had issues with the lack of windows on the third floor and that she wanted it fixed and soon. Once the house is near completion, I'll probably start putting the pictures up and post them in a chronological fashion, from when there was no third floor up until it's done, including interior pictures as well.
This is of course based upon the house being finished by the end of the year, which is what I'm hoping for. That way, if it's sooner, I'll be pleasantly surprised. If it's later, I'll just have the whole whatever attitude going. Hopefully it's done soon. It looks like a house though, so it's a start.
No stupid question or comment of the day because amazingly, no one asked a stupid question or said anything stupid enough for me to remember. Which I guess is a good thing. Instead, let me comment on how just pathetic the Cincinnati Bengals are. I've seen at least 10 dropped passes, several bad passes, and just uninspired play. They remind me of the Browns of a couple years ago without the talent on offense that the Browns had (even if it was a small amount) and a defense that's on the field too much.
Oh, and the Houston Texans look like an expansion team again after back to back rough games. But the Bengals, they are the most pathetic franchise in sports, hands-down.
They just can't get it together.
