MY LIFE - MARCH 1999

Dave and Anubis

March 6, 1999

It's official. I'm snowed in. Yup. Can't go anywhere right now because the streets are just awful. Funny thing is, it's not even that bad of a storm. I think it just caught people off guard. Not because they weren't warned. Several news sources called for several inches of snow and ice. I think because it took so long for the temperature to go down, people assumed it was never going to freeze. Then at 2 when things did begin to freeze, no one was ready.

It's astounding how many bad accidents were being reported. At one point, at least two 10-car accidents had been reported with several other accident reports coming in. Interstate 90 was a sheet of ice from Lakewood on east and the Shoreway was closed down because of the ice and accidents. I couldn't believe the reports that I was hearing while I was at work.

The 15 minute drive home turned into a 45 minute drive. I also almost took out the mailbox too. I let go of the brake though and found myself in the driveway. I won't ask how. I don't care.

I got home from work and found my mom working on the computer. On a web site. I immediately began thinking "oh god, she's going to break something else now." It was okay though, she really hadn't done much and was really just waiting for me to get home so that she could make me help her. I basically spent about 2 hours helping her write a web page. Actually, it was about an hour since she spent a good amount of time playing with a picture.

The site, which is called Kreal Graphics, is going to serve two purposes. One, it's for a class my mom's taking. She has to make a web page and she decided that it would be about my sister's artwork. The other reason is, well, she wants to show off my sister's artwork. I can't blame her. My sister is one hell of an artist. She's even signing her name on her work, which better mean she's serious about this stuff.

Anyway, I had to sit and try and explain repeatedly why she needed to do this and do that. It was irritating, yet at the same time, I was glad that my mom was learning this stuff. I think that if she really put some time into it, she could make a web site as good as any out there. So I really didn't mind helping. I also got to watch her clean up one of my sister's drawings so that it looked right. She didn't alter it, she just cleaned it. The scan made it look a lot darker than it was. So it was touched up.

I did enjoy helping her with the coding though. I helped her sign up with FastCounter for her site and found a guestbook that she wanted to include. She still has a lot of learning to do and a lot of work to do before it becomes something big, but she's on the right track. She just needs a little time and some effort and everything will fall into place.

It's apparently pledge time for public television. Then again, every other day seems to be pledge time. There was a time when it would only happen about once a year. Now it seems to be occuring every month or so and it makes me wonder. Is public television getting better with this money that we pledge, or are these people just wasting the money? I really can't tell. Half the time, it seems only bad British comedies are on or some news program about the same thing we see everywhere else.

I'm not bashing public television. I'm just saying that it seems to be more and more frequent that they have pledges. I'm just wondering where all that money is going. Obviously, the "Red & Green Show" is a great one, that and "Red Dwarf." Other than that, I really don't know.

My Ecology class went to the Natural History Museum yesterday, and I had so much fun. It was mostly due to the fact that I was in a great group. I was named star of the group, mostly because I was considered polite, I never disappeared, and because people thought I was so damn funny. I hadn't been on that good of a roll in a long time. I had people laughing quite frequently, and I'm glad. I think that it's good to laugh at things from time to time. I did have some great comments though, if I may say so myself.

It was immediately said that if we go to Sea World later this spring, I would be part of a similar group. I think I may have made an impression.
