Day two of my vacation from work was today. Actually, it's the first day today since I never work on Sunday anyway, but we'll call it the second day since it is the beginning of the week. I am on a week vacation from work right now. It felt weird not having to get ready to go into work, especially since it's Monday and I haven't had a Monday off in a long time, if ever. It was a good thing too. I had another splitting headache when I woke up and wouldn't want to go in anyway.
My mom was in there today to pick up a prescription and she said that it was apparent that I was missed, which kind of surprised me. I know that I bring a certain flair to the job when I work, but I didn't think I would be missed. After all, it didn't seem like anyone missed me in January when I took a week off. Then again, I've become sort of a recognizable site there that it might have been a little strange with me not around. I'm sure they all miss my comments above all the rest.
I don't know why it struck as being odd. I've been working there for almost two years now, so maybe people have become used to me being around. Maybe people are used to me pulling jokes off or my convenient comments. Maybe they just miss my presence period, but I'm not so sure. Whatever the case, it has to be a bit different with me not around since I usually bring a lot of energy to work, usually resulting in something weird happening or me having to take cover for whatever reason.
I, however, do not miss the place at all right now. Especially since the other thing my mom said was that the air conditioning fried. It was about 85° inside and there's almost no way to ventilate the building. I'm not too upset over missing that. I already do miss talking with some of the people though.
I've been noticing that some people are making a few misconceptions about where I work and how I feel about it. Some of you have told me that maybe I should get a better job somewhere else because you seem to think that the people irritate me there. Let me set one thing straight, it is not the people I work with. Nor is it the actual job itself. It's the company overall that makes me scratch my head and wonder where its head's really at. I love the people I work with, I like working in the pharmacy, but I don't like the way the company does things and some of the decisions that are made.
I don't think there's a job where you could have as much fun as I do where I work, and if there is, great. The world needs more jobs that are interesting and more people who are easy to get along with and aren't stuck on the no humor bullshit. Laughter really is the best medicine sometimes, but it seems that having fun is not allowed at many jobs. It's almost like it's illegal and unacceptable, but for no other reason than that it's not professional. I have a lot of fun where I work, and it's mostly due to the fact that I work with some really fun people and have a manager who's just as bad at times as we are.
The job and people are fun. You cannot say the same about the company and its policies. So no more confusion on that issue, okay?
In case none of you have noticed, the headers in this web site have begun to take on a new look as of late on some of the more updated pages. Instead of just underling a header, I've decided to change the fonts and the color of that font. The largest headers will consist of a font called brush script and will be blue. The rest of the headers will have the font bankgothic md bt and will also be blue.
The change serves two purposes. One, it stands out from the rest of the text, which is either green, yellow, or white, in both shape and color. Secondly, it just looks a whole lot better than the arial font which I primarily use on the site. So far, I've been happy with how it's looked and it's not as hard on web browsers since there's no image to display. However, if you don't have those fonts loaded into your computer, the text will still be there and still be blue, but it will appear in the arial font. With all the programs out there that offer hundreds of fonts as a bonus, I think most of you will be able to see the actual fonts since both fonts are part of most programs.
If you do need the font, e-mail me and I'll find a way to send it to you. Don't want to leave anybody out.
Tribe Watch '99
Last Game
Cleveland, 6
Kansas City, 1
Summary
The Tribe got strong pitching from Charles Nagy and Steve Karsay and the bats did enough damage early on to earn a split with the Royals in the 6-1 victory tonight. Nagy went 7 innings and earned his 10th win, making him the American League's second ten-game winner, and the Indians batted around in the second inning, all that was needed to win the game. Karsay went two innings, allowing three hits and striking out four as the Indians pitching staff rebounded from the first two games and first inning of game three to shut the Royals down.
In the second inning, the Indians scored four runs on six hits and a pair of walks, but could've had more had two runners not been gunned down at home plate and a spectacular catch had not been made. They added two more runs in the sixth on Richie Sexson's 15th home run of the year to right-center. Nagy gave a solo home run in the fourth, but pitched a solid game, striking out three, walking none, and hitting one batter.
Record
49-25, still the best in baseball.
