SCAM
Scam is one movie that is great
on all accounts.
The location, the subject (which
might give people idea's for those who haven't thought about it yet), the
music and the actors.
Lorraine Bracco stars next to
Christopher Walken in this movie which is taking us from one scam to another,
and it all has to do with money. Till the last minute you have no idea
where this movie is leading you to, and it certainly deserves more recognition
(as usual).
I think the opening scene alone
is brilliant:
Jack (Chris) meets Maggie (Lorraine)
in a bar and tells her he's a mortician. She looks disgusted when he says
his job is more than she thinks and explains that in a very vivid way,
which makes Jack laugh in a way only Chris can do, his famous "HE HE HE
HE HE". What I find attractive in this movie is it doesn't rush. It's slowly
but steady leading to the final climax, and the opening scene in the bar
is one example of just that. It leaves room for pauses, for looking, for
feeling what the other ones thinks without saying a word. That's brilliant
and a very strong thing in this movie. I very much like the music and the
song "Remember me" by Lucky Dube, when Maggie leaves by plane and Jack
is waving her goodbyes. It should have been a worldwide hit!
Scam is released in 1993 and
based on the novel by Craig Smith called "Ladystinger". He also wrote the
screenplay.
Original songs are by Maxi Priest.
Music by Stephen Graziano.
The movie was directed by John
Flynn.
